Thanksgiving: Celebrated with friends! Five people eating lots of tasty food and watching Dresden Files episodes (which a couple of us had not seen before). Also fluffy cats to pet. Good times! Well, good until the late evening migraine kicked in, which necessitated me leaving earlier than I might otherwise have done so I could get home and take pills to deal with the pain before trying to sleep. Still in spite of that ending, it was a good day overall, and I am grateful to [livejournal.com profile] stardansr and [livejournal.com profile] hasufin for the hospitality.

Friday: Day without a major headache, fortunately, but I was tired enough to spend the day dozing, reading, dozing some more, and drinking lots of tea. Never left the house.

Saturday: Really, really wanted to go out for a walk, but when I began, my left ankle reminded me that I'd twisted it last Wednesday night and it had not decided to forgive me yet. So, came home, ate lunch, innocently followed a link to the TV Tropes Wiki, then looked at the clock and wondered where the last several hours of my life had gone. Even for those folks out there who have little to no interest in television, there's probably some page that will suck you in. Of course, the site is even more dangerous for those who enjoy certain shows....

...hey, what just happened to the last twenty minutes?

Why is it that starting out with a new computer isn't allowed to be easy? Sheesh, you think everything's going along just great, then it tells you there's some sort of software problem or hardware problem and suddenly you find myself in Safe Mode wondering what the heck is going on. So you fiddle around with things a little, not really knowing what you're doing but thinking that you certainly should be doing something, and you restart the computer in the hopes that everything will be all sorted out. But you find yourself having problems again, and the computer tells you it has to shut down because things just aren't working out between you. You try talking to it, cajoling it into giving you some semi-useful hint as to what's going on, and still you get... not the silent treatment, exactly, but a decided lack of good information. And then, for no apparent reason, your machine partner decides to talk to you normally again, acting as if nothing was ever wrong, while you sit there still wondering what just happened and if it's likely to happen again.

It's been a long time since I got a new computer. I'd forgotten how much I hate this part.

On the plus side, now that I have a computer and mouse talking to each other (I'd been having mouse problems on the old computer for years), I can sit around playing Collapse--which is precisely what I did yesterday in lieu of doing anything remotely constructive. High score so far: 850,842. (I blame [livejournal.com profile] darth_spacey.)

In other news, I need chocolate.
