My ability to concentrate hasn't been all that good lately, but I have been reading Greg Critser's book Generation Rx in bits and pieces, and have been thinking it might be an interesting exercise to create a list of every prescription drug I can remember taking before I ever got an actual diagnosis and then find out how many of those drugs were pulled from the market for safety reasons. One potential problem with this exercise is that certain medications might have damaged my heart so much that it might kill me to let myself get that pissed off.

Funny thing--I remember one of the doctors who freely prescribed one of the killer drugs shaking his head and telling me that I should stop taking magnesium supplements because they could do me harm. There are, of course, several vitamins and minerals which can be quite dangerous if you ingest much more than your daily recommended value. Excess magnesium, on the other hand, pretty much just gives you the runs.

Because it looks like I never will give the last week (or two or however long it's been) the write-up it deserves, I'll make a few too-brief notes here and then go to bed.

Wednesday before last: After an annoying day wherein I didn't get anything useful done, I cheered up by going out and socializing with people. Yay! As well as seeing some of the usual suspects, got to meet a visiting [livejournal.com profile] foxgrrl, which was very cool even if [livejournal.com profile] foxgrrl was quickly distracted by one of the usual suspects and spent most of the evening elsewhere. ::grin::

Thursday: It was a day between Wednesday and Friday. It took time--24 hours of time, if I remember correctly.

Friday: Someone on Wednesday had mentioned a special charity showing of Serenity, movie based on the short-lived TV series Firefly. I mentioned that I had never seen the movie though I'd been a fan of the series, so people plotted to take me along with them to the Friday night showing. So that evening saw me going down to eat dinner and then watch a movie with friends. After the movie--which I, as expected, loved--and some interesting adventures in northern Virginia roads and parking lots, [livejournal.com profile] aekiy, [livejournal.com profile] kyoudai02, and I ended up crashing at [livejournal.com profile] lyssabard and [livejournal.com profile] tlttlotd's place, where we congratulated [livejournal.com profile] tlttlotd on some good job news, ate tasty food, slept till late in the mornings, and generally enjoyed hanging out with each other all weekend. [livejournal.com profile] tlttlotd wrote about the weekend in a longish entry in his memory log, so I'm just going to direct you all there.

After a very enjoyable weekend, came home to discover that the power had been out a few times and everything smelled like wet cardboard, wet wood, or wet dog (this last was somewhat surprising considering we have a no-pet household, even if I did find myself patting a housemate's head and skritching her behind the ears). Yeah, as you may have heard, it rained a lot in the DC area last weekend.

After the weekend... well, it was wet. I didn't do much worth mentioning, partly because the people I needed to deal with weren't returning my calls, and partly because of some unexpected blood loss and pain. Thursday was notable because I managed to get a gift certificate and myself to a grocery store before the rains began, got an avocado for free from a cashier as an apology for some mistakes she'd made with the order, watched some heavy rain through the window, waited around for far too long because something had gone wrong with the computer system, and left the store after the rain had stopped to be greeted by a brightly-shining rainbow.
