This afternoon Mother Nature provided a cool spectacle--probably the most impressive hailstorm I've ever seen. Now, my Hoosier housemate didn't quite see why I was so impressed by this level of hail. Then I told him that we can go entire summers around here without seeing any hail at all and that any hail we do get is generally about pea-sized, at which point he acknowledged that sure, golf-ball sized hail piling up as it did is reasonably impressive after all. He seemed more interested in the fact that when a huge hailstone hit his window, it was the hail that broke rather than the glass. "It was soft! like a snowball!"
So, big soft hail, no major damage. Many twigs were broken off the trees though, filling the air with a sharp green scent as winds blowing from all directions plastered leaves to every window in the house. Oh, and lightning crackled everywhere! Very pretty and didn't even knock the power out for more than about fifteen minutes. Gosh, I wish I were awake enough to find better words to describe it.
In other, less nifty, news, "The Bush-Cheney reelection campaign has sent a detailed plan of action to religious volunteers across the country asking them to turn over church directories to the campaign, distribute issue guides in their churches and persuade their pastors to hold voter registration drives."
Bits of this story kinda very much tick me off. Full story here. (From the Washington Post via Yahoo.)
There's more personal stuff I still need to write about at some point and a passel of links I'm likely to feel the need to include, but that'll all have to wait till later. Here's hoping all is well with you folks out there.
