Early-evening Update
Thursday, September 4th, 2003 06:27 pmGosh, it's a good thing I made myself promise on Tuesday that I wouldn't go for any long walks on Wednesday. Otherwise I might have been tempted to overexert myself again.
Wait, no I wouldn't. Yesterday was not one of my better days. Tired down to my bones and having difficulty taking more than shallow breaths, all I really wanted to do was lie around the house drinking orange juice and eating bananas. It wasn't the worst day I've had recently--pain was minimal. But it certainly wasn't good.
I did make the soup I'd planned to make--beef, barley, black beans, and begetables. (Well, the letters "b" and "v" are pronounced the same in Spanish, so surely I'm allowed a little orthographic license here.) Also spoke for a while with the new lawyer assigned to my case, so the day wasn't a complete waste.
Was afraid last night after I'd taken my evening dose of pain medicine that the breathing problems were a sign of allergic reaction to the new drug, but I woke up feeling better and haven't collapsed today, so maybe I'll live after all. I even walked to a convenience store a few blocks away for more orange juice, though by the time I got home I rather wished I hadn't.
It's been raining here most of the day. Outside the window, big, silvery drops cling to leaves, wet splotches darkening the rough bark. Many places in the neighborhood have a wide variety of fungi growing, even a few tree branches covered in rust-orange mushrooms. It feels like a rainforest, though somewhat less than tropical. Over the sound of music through my headphones, I hear cicadas buzzing.
