Hummingwolf Today

Now wearing: Black T-shirt with bright flowers on it, blue jeans, white socks, newest pair of glasses. The shirt is getting worn out, but I still love it and will miss it when it's gone.

Color of the day: Lilac. I don't know why. It just is.

Cat of the day: Egyptian mau.

Emotion of the day: I experimented with nearly all of them before deciding on a custom blend of cheerfulness and anxiety which could burst into tears any minute now.

Miles walked: Over three.

Miles Vorkosigan: Memory.

Surprise of the day: Efficient bureaucrats! One of them wished me an early happy birthday.

Last meal eaten: Jamaican style spicy beef turnover with mushed avocado on top, followed by some okra.

Album of the day: Iris' Awakening again.

TV shows watched: Smallville and Supernatural.

Web site of the night: In honor of tonight's Supernatural episode, I give you Creepy Clown!

Silly quiz result of the day:

We have jamaican style beef turnovers in our freezer. They sound good.
Alas, I can not try them, though. They are tainted with the evil that is msg.

And this was me...

Yeah, these turnovers taste pretty good, but in spite of the fact that they're a decent source of iron, I have difficulty thinking of them as real food. Why does the pastry need artificial yellow coloring, anyway?

I am not at all surprised by your quiz result. Not one bit. ;-)

Is there anything in specific that you're anxious about?

Lots of specific things to be anxious about, yes. Mostly health-related stuff (why can't I get through to my doctor yet??) and financial stuff. This time of year, there's also the bureaucrap to deal with--will I get all my forms filled out in time to keep getting food stamps & medical assistance without interruption? And if I do, will the people in the office working on it do their part or lose my file again?

The usual stuff, in other words.

The mother of my cat Delilah, who is owned by my grandparents, and is named Missy, is an Egyptian Mau. :-D At least, I would bet money that she is since she fits the description, but she was a stray so she could be a mix of anything.

Anyway, Egyptian Maus are so cute! :-)

Jamaican beef patty = yum, okra = yuck.

And, wooOOooOOoo....

Egyptian maus are pretty much the iconic Cat. They're beautiful! Of the three cats we had when I was growing up, two were strays who spent a lot of their time outdoors even when they lived with us. A lot of people think that letting a cat roam outdoors is a bad thing, but the strays lived pretty good lives. The cat my parents bought, a cat who stayed indoors a lot of the time, was the one who died of feline leukemia when she was only two. :-(

I like okra. Yes, I know, I'm a weirdo. But one time a few years ago, I heard an Indian woman working at a food court restaurant talking to a southern woman customer about all the best ways of cooking okra. The little Indian food court place had a curried okra special that day! I wish I'd had enough money to try some then.

You're a whispering nightmare too? I should check under my bed more often.

Once a cat is used to being outside it's kinda mean and really hard to make them be inside-only. Since I've had mine since kittenhood they are indoor only kitties. But the aforementioned Missy, who is a very accomplished hunter, is an inside-outside kitty. And I've recently been adopted by a stray that we've spayed and vaccinated, and who is going to live in a little cat house in my yard.:-)

My meemaw loves the okra, as well as lots of other people I know. I think it's a southern thing. But Okra is one of the few things I hate. Along with green beans and cauliflower.

I can understand hating the slimy okra, and cauliflower can get nasty--but why do you hate green beans? Maybe I'm just too used to eating those with bacon on 'em to understand.

[identity profile] coffeegrace.livejournal.com 2006-10-12 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
My family usually serves them with bacon too, but it's just not enough to cover the green bean taste. Oddly, I like them prepared the Lebanese ways. One is with Lemon and garlic and the other is with a tomato sauce and lots of garlic as well. Guess I just like garlic so much I can forget about the beans. :-) I also hated potato salad all my life until I had it the Lebanese way. They don't put mayonnaise! Instead it is boiled, peeled potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers and onions with lemon, garlic and vinegar. Mmmmm.
