Update

Last week's migraine continues, combining with a bit of muscle tension to make for a nasty headache this morning. Am feeling better this afternoon, which is unexpected since I've been doing some little tiny bits of cleaning and inhaling rather a lot of dust which the vacuum cleaner decided it didn't want to keep all to itself anymore. I tried telling the machine that Hoovers are supposed to suck, not blow, but the stupid thing wasn't listening to me. Instead, it began to make these odd little noises and I soon realized that it was actually producing a melody, which was somewhat disconcerting.

In other news, my hands smell like bleach. Oh wait, that's kinda connected to the cleaning mentioned earlier and not another thing at all. Nevermind.

The weather's been quite pleasant so far this September, with nice, comfortable temperatures and some much-needed rain. Okay, there was flooding in parts of the area which was more than a little bothersome, but none of that affected our house. Here, it's been nice and quiet and cool and about the only complaint I have about the great ::achoo:: outdoors this weekend is the ragweed pollen, which, combined with the dust I inhaled earlier is making me wish I had some softer facial tissues around.

Other things my migraine-brain insists I need to type out: There's a speckled butterfly flying around the tree outside, there was a raccoon climbing on the neighbor's roof earlier, and I need to get some chocolate before the day ends.

Have you tried riboflavin for the migraines? There's some good data to suggest that it makes a huge difference in suffering, and the study has been widely duplicated. They used 400 mg once daily in all the studies, but you can only actually absorb about 27. Not sure what's up with that, but all the studies cited used that dose.I'm guessing you could find it at gnc-- I've been taking 2 b-complex vites a day for the past 2 weeks in an effort to get the dose. Problem is that large doses of other B's may not be so great... my search continues. Anyway, check out Cleveland Clinic's Neuro dept q&a site for more info.
Looks like a pretty solid finding.

Ooh, thanks for the info! One problem for me is that I don't have spare cash, and while my flavor of Medicaid will pay for some OTC things, I'm pretty sure riboflavin (by itself) isn't one of them. I do take a multivitamin, which... oh, which was given to me in a pharmacy bottle so I have no idea what amount of anything is in it.

ooh, thanks for the advice.

No problem! Maybe ask your doc for a script? You could point him at those studies, and ask his advice on sources. Riboflavin itself is inexpensive. A compounding pharmacy would be the place to go, as they still have the raw materials to mix up their own meds. Should be cheaper than GNC... most things are. I still haven't committed to going over there--I'm in search of a compounder! Main thing to know is that a standard multivite *won't* give you the dose you need, and you don't want a b-complex vite at the does you need for riboflavin-- too much of a good thing.
Dan and I looked up what was absorbable and came up with 27mg/day-- so try starting with that. Anything else will flush right out of you anyhow. Good luck!

hope you feel better very soon. feeling allergic and headachey is one of the great ironies of housecleaning.

Thank you! And yes, the sneezing all over everything doesn't leave me feeling very clean at all.
