For the record

Early to bed and early to rise may make a man healthy, wealthy, and wise, but it doesn't do much of anything for a hummingwolf. After several long weeks of going to bed early and waking up at 5 a.m. (or earlier), I quit. Even when I eat breakfast at 5:30, my body rhythms simply are not adjusting. I need to find a different way to get myself out of the house early in the morning when necessary, because this routine doesn't work for me.

I do have to admit it's been nice to watch the sun rise for a change.

If it's broke, fix it!

I have been wondering if it would be possible to 'arrange' myself earlier in the day and function. Even when I try and get up earlier and arrange myself to go to sleep the previous night earlier there is still that part of me that does not 'wake up' until my 'normal' time.

Is it like that?

Sort of. Not to go into TMI here, but no matter when I eat breakfast, my digestive system still isn't really waking up till the usual time. This is kind of a big problem. Actually I think my conscious mind adjusted to the earlier schedule better than the rest of my body did.

My doctor actually told me that some people have nocturnal rhythms and if possible we should do our best to live in accordance to our bio-rhythms, failing that, he did tell me that it can be adjusted, slowly and recommended taking Melatonin to get to that deep sleep state when I needed to get up early in the morning.

The funny thing is that I used to be a morning person. I never enjoyed waking up at 5 in the morning, but used to do well with getting up at 6. My schedule changed drastically when I started chatting online in the summer of 2000, though. :-)
