Success!
Yes, it's true--today I found and purchased an onion! One that isn't obviously rotting!
Yeah, it's the little things that get ya through the night.
Also got some gold kiwi fruits. How did I not know about these before now? They've apparently been available for the last five years, but today's the first time I've eaten any. Tasty little things.
Must stop buying foods from the "Reduced for Quick Sale" section of the store and focus on produce for the rest of the month. Not that there's anything wrong with paying 69 cents for a can of soup they'd usually charge $2.99 for, or $1.49 for a $3+ box of cereal. It's just that I've stocked up enough of the non-perishable foods to last awhile, and it would be nice to still have enough food stamp dollars to buy fresh plant matter at the end of the month.
Fruit is too expensive these days, but it is so tasty.
Other success: Managed to find and sew two buttons onto a shirt that desperately needed them.
Was too dizzy to do much early in the day, so doing laundry, mending a blouse, and shopping for groceries were pretty much all the useful things I did. Also watched this week's House repeat and read a bit of Greg Bear's novel Darwin's Children.
