One of these days...

... I will get back to reading people's posts on Dreamwidth and LiveJournal, but that day is not this day. I keep coming back to read a few entries on a few semi-randomly-selected journals, but then I realize I've managed to tire myself out too much to read any more; so if you've seen me leave a comment in one place that seemed disconnected from everything else you'd have expected me to see, that's why. Briefly, I've been tiring myself out by:

(A) following online drama elsewhere (for those who know Slacktivist: I've been reading comments on both the new site and the old site, and yes, that is only possible because I have no life)

(B) continuing to be sick. Not coughing nearly as much as I was, but the bronchitis is still with me to a certain extent. I went outside and walked a reasonable amount on Monday & Tuesday and took a very short walk today (Wednesday), so I'm not just sitting here like a bump in a bed anymore. My rib cage is hurting a lot now, though, so when I do cough it is even more unpleasant than it was before.

(C) reading things written by adult children of alcoholics about their family life and doing some comparing & contrasting with growing up with a chronically ill parent. The differences are obvious, but in retrospect it seems to me that some of the similarities should have been obvious to me before now. I may share some of my thoughts on this topic later, but I'd advise you all not to hold your breath--mostly because somebody should be getting enough oxygen and I'm not sure it's going to be me.

Tomorrow we're supposed to get some heavy rain. Sounds like a good excuse to stay home and rest some more.

Condolences & best wishes on your health.

Yes, I think other families than ones with addictions share some of the problems of not enough parental attention to go around, forcing children to be prematurely responsible, a parent with labile moods-- My family had some of that, due to four children, an irresponsible/depressed father, a somewhat narcissistic mother, and effects of a very unhappy parental marriage. My father probably also was a secret drinker, even alcoholic, but I don't think that's necessary; the others can present an adult-children-of-alcoholics situation on their own. (I'm not that much a classic ACoA, but my older sister was, and all four of us share some traits.)

Thank you!

Yeah, with my mother there was physical unavailability, general uncertainty, mood swings and cognitive issues caused by the combination of pain and medications--all sorts of things which are confusing enough for an adult, but even more confusing for a small child.

Oooh, you're a Slacktivist follower, too? I rarely read the comments, mostly because by the time I get to the post there's a bazillion comments already, but I'm aware of the main complaints about the move.

Fred Clark's passed the TypePad blog over to some of the more well-known commenters who are taking suggestions for what to do with the space, so it'll be interesting to see what happens next.

Yeah, I saw that.

Here are some prayers and wishes that your cough clears up soon, and that you can get some rest.

I hear you. I've coughed so much the last two weeks that every breath is a struggle against the pain. Feel better soon!!

Yeah, my coughing isn't bad now but the pain around my ribcage is really kinda disturbing.

Pei pa koa is pretty decent cough medicine (from herbal as I remembered), great non alcoholic medicine, some western cough medicine are more effective, but this is non drowsy.

Thanks for the info. I'm not really interested in trying something with that many herbs I've never tried, though--I might be allergic to them all!
