I'm back! I'm back! I'm connected again!

to penguinboi and unwilly for their efforts in figuring out my computer problems,
to snowmerlin for a very caring care package,
to windsparrow for a physically small gift which helped immensely (when is Arbor Day?),

Would update more but there's a cup of green curry soup calling my name (and you know you're in trouble when foodstuffs are calling you by name (though it'd be worse if the soup were calling me by someone else's name, wouldn't it?)). Have a wonderful night, all!

You can take the old hard drive out and put it in the new computer.

Look at your current HD. It has a flat, thick grey ribbon cable. There should be another cable like that, not attached to anything, that you can hook the old HD up to.

Erm, if the other cable's not attached to anything, where would I find it? I didn't see a spare in the box the computer came in.

oh, its not loose

the grey cables will go from the mother board
to the HD. there should be one attached to yourHD
and likely one that is only attached to the motherboard

And in case my last reply sounded snarky, I have to clarify: I really am clueless when it comes to hard drives. All I really know is that it looks like there's room for just one in the new computer's case.
