As we were talking last night, a housemate and I somehow ended up discussing our experiences in middle school and high school, laughing about old classmates we probably hadn't thought of in years. As some of you are aware, I rent a room in a household which consists primarily of grad students and post-college folks in their 20s, making me the oldest person in the house. Anyway, part of the conversation went somewhat like this:

Her: I don't know if there were any of these in your era, but did you ever have girls in class who thought they had better bodies than anyone else and always wore revealing outfits to show them off while everyone else was wearing something more sensible?

Me: Oh yes, we had those.

Her: Well, one day there was one of those girls, wearing a miniskirt and tube top...

and so she went on with another story.

Some time after the conversation was over and we'd gone back to our rooms, I decided that the conversation wasn't really over after all. After knocking on her door and opening it at her invitation:

Me: Excuse me, I just had to set the record straight about something.

Her: Yes?

Me: You know how you asked whether we had those girls wearing miniskirts and tube tops in "my era"?

Her: Yes...

Me: It was the eighties. We had boys wearing leather miniskirts and tube tops.

It's always fun to give someone a good gigglefit before bedtime.

Monday: Had an appointment. Canceled the appointment when I realized that, whether my problems that morning were technically seizures or not, they were probably not something I wanted to be experiencing at the dentist's office, particularly not while I was in the dentist's chair being poked with sharp instruments. Just as well, really, because the weather was--well, it was fun weather to look at from inside the house. Wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour. Many of the leaves that had somehow remained on the trees after our Thanksgiving winds finally gave in to the inevitable on Monday. I never left the house.

Tuesday: Still "breezy," but gusts were only in the 30 mph range. Very pretty day, I thought, and with temperatures technically above freezing. I walked about three miles, enjoying the sunset at one point and a conversation a little later. More conversations after getting home, some of them entertaining.

Wednesday: IT SNOWED! IT SNOWED!! WHEE!!!

Ahem. Temperatures hovered at or just above the freezing point, so snow simply didn't stick to all the surfaces it fell on. Where it did stick, though, it piled up to about four inches in our neighborhood. A good first snow of the season, methinks. Again I walked about three miles, enjoying fresh sparkly goodness all the way.
