ThisIsPractice
Wednesday, August 15th, 2007 11:05 amToo sleep-deprived for words. The English language is acting like it's only a nodding acquaintance these days instead of the old friend I thought it was. Reading for long periods of time is out of the question. So, time to do silly things with music instead!
If you visit the Tune Toys page, there are plenty of odd things you can do with midi files. If you're lucky, you might even chance upon something that you're willing to listen to more than once.
This weekend I remembered some very old Turtle Beach software hanging around on my computer and decided it was time to play around with it again, so I visited the Muse-O-Matic Tune Toy, picked algorithm A, and generated a short piece using the text "ThisIsPractice" (Note: the capital letters are important; you'll get a different tune without them). After downloading that midi, I used the old Turtle Beach composing software to try to change the instruments, realized I had no idea what I was doing, managed to change harps and bass to other instruments anyway, added a rhythm track inspired by some different Tune Toys output (Web Tones based on temporary files generated by other Tune Toys), and ended up with a very cheesy bit of music which I, for some strange reason, actually like enough to share with you all. After convincing QuickTime to turn the .mid into a .mov, I uploaded it to LJ and will now attempt to include an entirely non-visual "video" in this entry. Let's see if this works:
You know, using ScrapBook's code to include a .mov located on LJ's own servers doesn't look nearly as impressive as those embedded YouTube videos people keep posting. Click the little picture, then click the big picture, and then you should be able to hear it? Or maybe it'll work if you just go here.
