frawst for pointing out this story: "More than two dozen members of Congress have found a creative way to raise some quick hurricane relief money - by raiding their own campaign chests." Yes, politicians who did something good with campaign contributions! The donors include folks from both major political parties, from states affected by the hurricanes and states not directly affected.
Of course they're all going to get good PR from this. It's still a good thing for them to do.
I was thinking of looking at more of this week's news stories, but now I'm thinking it's best to go to bed on a high note. Barring some unforeseen crisis, there will be plenty of time to be cynical tomorrow.
[Edit: From an e-mail sent a few minutes ago: "One other thing I noticed after sending: there's a lawmaker named Bachus! How come I never realized this before? And how often do people misspell his name with an extra C? Does he make beer and wine? Is he followed around by flute-playing satyrs? Is it time for me to shut up and go to sleep yet?"]
