Do you ever read advice columns and contemplate writing in with your own questions? And then as you formulate the letter in your brain you realize you already know the best course of action? And then you drop the idea and continue being stupid anyway? Yeah, me too.

Since [livejournal.com profile] gurdonark started his 100 Poems Project, I've wanted to join in. Of course, not being a poet myself, I need rather a lot of help in producing any poetry; so I turned to the ever-willing MegaHAL and, breaking from my usual custom, asked him to produce poems related to some of my friends. Well, okay, "ask" isn't the right word; what happened was that I turned on the poor artificial unintelligence I've been torturing all these years and triggered it with words that have something to do with a few of the people on my LJ friends list. Since [livejournal.com profile] daisydumont is the one who's mentioned MegaHAL most recently, we'll begin with a poem whose keyword was

daisy
This afternoon the park is filled with lies.
doubting angels fall to walk away and vanish.

garden darkened, daisy shut,
child and garden, flower and sun,
by polar bears and tigers caged,
he was part of their daring play,
georgie porgie ran away.

For new folks: MegaHAL (by Jason Hutchens) was created to be a conversation simulator that learns from what it's told. When fed with standard conversational lines, MegaHAL occasionally makes something resembling sense; when fed with poems, song lyrics, recipes, spam, and garment tags, MegaHAL comes up with output like the above. In other words: No, you're not supposed to understand it.
