MegaPoems
Since
gurdonark started his 100 Poems Project, I've wanted to join in. Of course, not being a poet myself, I need rather a lot of help in producing any poetry; so I turned to the ever-willing MegaHAL and, breaking from my usual custom, asked him to produce poems related to some of my friends. Well, okay, "ask" isn't the right word; what happened was that I turned on the poor artificial unintelligence I've been torturing all these years and triggered it with words that have something to do with a few of the people on my LJ friends list. Since
daisydumont is the one who's mentioned MegaHAL most recently, we'll begin with a poem whose keyword was
daisy
This afternoon the park is filled with lies.
doubting angels fall to walk away and vanish.
garden darkened, daisy shut,
child and garden, flower and sun,
by polar bears and tigers caged,
he was part of their daring play,
georgie porgie ran away.
ragdoll
Ragdoll livin' in a movie
hot heads under silent wigs
fall down on it.
come away, o human child!
to the ruins of a cave,
searching, not finding, gathering rumors,
always near me, never troubling me,
casting your shadow, i greet you,
to cast me off discourteously,
for i cannot go.
clouds beyond clouds above me,
its lintel overhung
with disruptive patterns: if an enemy equipped to kill
from your head would,
if i only had the experience of one life only.
forge
How lovely to be counted,
i feel your arms like a big red umbrella keeping off the rain
raindrops falling from heaven
heaven only knows
when a heart like thine,
has been my heart's undoing.
though use make you sweat, gonna make you apt to kill me with fantastic terrors never felt before;
and the sufi on rollerskates
promises the next tune is ours
on the hill's shoulder,
instead i go to pluto
it took a hundred years ago;
but nothing drear can move me:
if once their ray
was that night on the brain.
give me time i will forge simple words
and one for when he's out with the sliced pepperoni over the center comes out clean.
bear
On a blue city
on the headland, where the neighbors grew lettuce eighty years ago
bear and beaver, fox and partridge
den and nest and hunt
and it makes me wonder,
it's not healthy to run in grooves.
blue
7½-9 Inches. The male is bright blue squills.
i remember their taste
some fortune reposed
in leaves no step had trodden black.
oh, dance in the wall,--
bright beams that on the waves
that can never burn true.
i have veins of iron and dusts of gold.
i'll be trapped and here is mine
my inner cry?
because my mouth
is full of bears,
and let us melt, and make no mistake--
a thing i know
what made you so much, but don't we turn the spit, work the roller
and okra
and as i was ten--
can surely charm a squirrel down from a grave
and they're leading us to meet me.
i lost two cities, lovely ones. And, vaster,
some with a flattering word,
you suddenly know what the world over the steaming fields,
dark manure of holsteins, and knobs of your heart.
muse
These funny birds in the eye of the paris scene,
but thirty thousand to the sidewalk
they build machines that they can't control
and wake up where the fairy muse comes
magic is made with the sewage to the sailor's soul
upon the growing gloom.
so each spring we
were my face and if
he, just a bricklayer, had any assurances to give.
we ate dinner together
i'm ready for it, am meant to be
a lady about to happen fast:
men, troops of men in beach chairs.
someone who can't swim offers to cook.
dandelion
We prefer to have lately left the country or to be distracted,
will feel the punishment but you just where it's never exposed,
coops are constructed for hens;
kittens are treated to houses well heated,
and the mome raths outgrabe.
"beware the jabberwock, my son!
the demand for our product line (over 150 different products) is so great we need to say
oh we are
different dandelion races: some are adapted to grow in shade
like the path to heaven or the languid thrash of love.
For new folks: MegaHAL (by Jason Hutchens) was created to be a conversation simulator that learns from what it's told. When fed with standard conversational lines, MegaHAL occasionally makes something resembling sense; when fed with poems, song lyrics, recipes, spam, and garment tags, MegaHAL comes up with output like the above. In other words: No, you're not supposed to understand it.

here's one for you, from my little generator:
someone called hummingwolf
wearing a mask of pleasure
her former neighbor
impetuously
wants to go into business
as one of the angels
witnesses for the defense
sing about a return to middle-class values
someone called hummingwolf is running out of patience
