Why the Hummingwolf doesn't buy astrology (reason #957)

As I sometimes do on days which stand out for one reason or another (such as, oh, a day when I'm still awake at 3 in the morning because I'm too crying too hard to sleep), I just checked out one of the online astrology sites for a lark. Went to one of the ultra-personalized ones, one that bases readings on your precise birth time and location (rather than merely your sun sign as the newspapers and magazines do).

Apparently, taking all the planetary forces into account, I'm quite likely to be cut off from my emotions at the moment. Too Vulcan-like. Too detached.

Wow. That was almost good for a laugh.

Do you know that of all the people in LJ, there are only two who list Ralph McTell among their interests. I am the other.
I've never met a hummingwolf before.
I jope you don't mind that I'm adding you to my friends list.

I've only managed to get three Ralph McTell albums, but I love what I've heard.

I shall add you to my friends list as well. Happy to make your acquaintance!

Through various happenstance, I no longer have any of his albums, though I used to have a few. I have seen him live a few times though, a long time ago. A friend of mine used to promote his concerts on the east coast.

I hope you don't mind, but I had my S.O. and partner in crime [livejournal.com profile] anoisblue read your journal. She said it was like reading poetry.

Just remembered I was wrong about the number of McTell albums I have. I actually have listened to four (2 LPs, 2 CDs) and bought another LP just before my turntable died a few years ago. In the '80s a local radio station always seemed to play the live version of "Streets of London" on nights when a gentle rain was falling. I wish they still did that.

Have you ever had the chance to hear his newer work? Sand in Your Shoes, which came out in the late '90s, is one of the ones I have. Good stuff.

Of course I don't mind if other people read my journal--I don't post things here if I want them kept private. Interesting that she thinks reading my writing is like reading poetry, considering I never did get the hang of writing poetry. Hmm... I hope that comment was intended as a compliment. If so, I thank you both. :-)

Be warned that I sound different depending on what I've been reading. My energy levels have an effect as well--I'm more permeable when I'm as tired as I am now, more likely to absorb other people's voices (though also more likely to forget all known rules of English grammar). It's not just my writing, either; you should hear what I sound like after I've been talking to southerners and listening to the BBC all in the same day.

Definately a compliment - especially since she and I are both writers, and we edit and publish a literary zine.

I've lived in ten states, and my accent skews wildly depending on where I am and who I'm talking to.
