hummingwolf: (My world is askew!)

Heh

So I had this dream that the world was predicted to end within a few hours. But then the supposed time of the end came--and passed--and I was relieved even though I hadn't quite believed the prediction in the first place, and other people were uncertain because they had believed and weren't convinced that their lives on Earth were not coming to an end.

The earthquake that woke me up from the dream is currently thought to be a 3.6.

I am glad the world did not end and you are all right! <3

Me too! First earthquake I've ever felt. (This far from the epicenter, what I felt was undoubtedly rather less than magnitude 3.6.)

whoa! what a way to wake up!
It's a scary thing to go through, huh?
Glad you're ok.

It actually wasn't frightening, just odd. Still an interesting way to start the day!

Intriguing!

An exciting way to begin the day!

Whoa! That is freaky. And I had no idea earthquakes could occur in your part of the world.

if you'll please excuse my breaking in, i had no idea either, and i've lived here for over 30 years! Mother Earth is steamed at us, i think.

Maryland earthquakes are not entirely unknown! I'd never felt one before this morning, but I've heard about a few smaller ones. The Maryland Geological Survey has a webpage about earthquakes here. Table 3 on that page has a list of earthquakes from 1758-2003, and it seems none of them has ever been very big.

that was very interesting! thank you! it shows terre haute to be in a moderate zone, seattle either moderate or major (i'm shaky on the geography). it's nice to be here in a low-danger area. *g*

the multitude of tremors located in allview estates, where we almost bought a house back in the '80s, is peculiar. lots of lots of little shocks, i guess. i don't remember the '93 one at all.

There have been a couple earthquakes with more than magnitude 2.0 that I can recall, but I didn't feel either one of them. I slept through one, was in a car during the other, and felt cheated for both. This time, I got to feel the earth move!

Of course what's exciting for one part of the world may be less exciting for another. The last time Maryland had an earthquake this big was in 1939. The last time California had an earthquake this big was yesterday.

That actually happened (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Disappointment)

Oh yes, it happened in the real world. But that sort of thing usually ends with people splitting into new denominations or drifting away, not being awakened by baby earthquakes.

You're just special that way.

Also, I think you'd have a hard time splitting into a new denomination.
