Survived the Snowpocalypse!

You guys, I very much wished I had a good camera with me last night around sunset. It was after the snow had stopped coming down, I was walking down an easy hill (with other explorers ahead of and behind me), and was stunned by the beauty of the glowing orange sky hanging over the world where tiny people walked down the center of the street while great alien mounds of snow loomed over them. It was a weird and beautiful sight.

I am, as is so often the case, tired. But I am happy to have food enough to last... till the next snowstorm, probably, which means I'm hoping to be able to walk somewhere tomorrow. Anyway, I am happy to have food, happy that we still have heat, happy that the electricity here never went out. Also happy that Friday was the only day of truly nasty antibiotic side effect action.

Yes, I suppose I should mention that I'm happy I got to the doctor's office on Thursday. I think I mentioned over a week ago that I'd been having mouth pain, and I was growing more and more convinced that the actual cause was an ear infection. Well, by Thursday I was tired of not being able to yawn properly, tired of eating only soft foods, so I made a same-day appointment to get ear, mouth, whatever looked at. The PA examining me looked at the ear, tried to come up with a good way to explain to me just how bad my tympanic membrane looked, and finally gave up and wrote out a prescription for azithromycin. Worst part of the visit: "Open wide and say 'Ahhh.'" Somehow I managed not to scream. I have a follow-up appointment this week, but whether I make it or not depends of course on what the weather does and whether public transportation will be running that day.

Thursday was a busy day for me, really. Before the medical stuff, I went to the public library to return a DVD (Jan Svankmajer's Alice, a surrealist film inspired by Alice in Wonderland with its own distinct "What the Hell?!" factor. Probably not a good movie for children or people especially prone to nightmares, but I quite enjoyed bits of it) and borrow a few more. Many other people must have decided that borrowing videos before the Snowpocalypse was a good idea, because that audiovisual department was packed. Good thing I'd gone early! Got to the doctor's well before the scheduled time, but spent the time before the appointment taking a little nap. After that, I went to the local supermarket, which had the kind of crowd you'd normally expect to see just before Thanksgiving. Picked up essentials like hummus, rice chips, mustard greens, and peanut butter.

Friday morning, I somehow got myself moving early enough to get out of the house before the snow began. Walked to the store where I get prescriptions filled, got my generic Z-Pak, and bought a few more food items while I was there. The store was crowded, but not unreasonably so--the cashier told me that the worst time that day was 5 a.m., when masses of people did their nearly-last-minute shopping. I left the store just after wet snow started falling.

And now it's Sunday. I've spent hours online reading about the snow, then hours reading things entirely unrelated to snow, and watched the old Bette Davis movie Dark Victory (which had both Humphrey Bogart and Ronald Reagan in it, though never both in the same scene). And I'm more tired now than I was when I began typing, so it's probably time for me to get to bed. Good night, all!

Ah, Z-packs. Those things which made me believe in side effects.

*hugs* Please get better.

Let us know if you should begin to run low on food. I'm sure we can figure out something. I make no guarantee that a trebuchet won't be involved, though.

Believe me, I am trying to get better!

Trebuchet won't be necessary this week, I'm sure--I've got enough cash on hand that I can always hand some to an energetic housemate and ask them to please pick up something from the store. The nearest Giant's been open, if a bit understocked, and one of the housemates has skis. No worries, I'd just rather be able to go out myself. :-)

Ah, Z-packs, the latest in the list of antibiotics I'm allergic to.

I don't seem to be allergic, but I'm not convinced it's doing anything for the infection either.

gosh, i'm sorry about all that ear and jaw pain. sure hope the medicine has knocked the infection.

at 5:00, zack had just jumped up to purr at me when i heard the snowplow go by, at least out on the front road. the side road where my driveway is, i dunno yet. this is so not fun.

Still hurting, but still hopeful that I'll get better soonish.

You might actually be lucky that the snowplow didn't go past earlier. One of the local streets was plowed thoroughly, but not plowed well, and it is now covered with a layer of hard-packed, very smooth snow. Not good.
