Still here

I keep meaning to write a nice, long update, but that's apparently not going to happen. So, a mini-update: I am alive. In addition, I am sleepy.

Some more detail: I decided that since a person doesn't turn 40 every year, I would be nice to myself my entire birthday week. This worked out well, as my actual birthday was rather boring but other bits of that week were fun. Oct. 4: Spent time with folks who took me out for dinner (mmm... bacon buffalo cheeseburger). Oct. 8: Went to this farmers market because they had a cooking demo by (cable TV reality show?) celebrity chef Carla Hall. She put on a good show, engaging with her fans in the crowd & making tasty food for people to sample. While I was there, I splurged on a cheese pie with smoked salmon from Neopol Savory Smokery (verdict: expensive but delicious).

Weather last week: Basic pleasant, autumnal weather, good for walking. Weather since this past Wednesday afternoon: Cold & wet, not much fun at all.

My brain hasn't been working very well lately. I suspect that medication has something to do with this, which is disappointing as it's been fairly good at keeping noticeable seizures at bay. I think it's time for another neurologist visit, drattit.

Still have no digital TV, which leaves me with less to talk about. Maybe I'll get a DVD player and wait till everything comes out on video before watching every episode all at once. The library lets patrons borrow DVDs, but I'm not sure if they'll have everything I want. Hmmm... Is Dollhouse any good this year?

Thank you! I think you wished me a happy b-day ahead of time, which was good too. :-)

I am a firm believer in not waiting for someone else to pamper you on your birthday, but to get the job done yourself. Sounds like you did a fine job of it, too! That cheese pie sounds awesome! I love smoked salmon.

Hee! Kindly folks did take me out for dinner one night, though, so I didn't have to do it all on my own. But yes, while the cheese pie was too expensive for me to buy it on a regular basis, it was a wonderful birthday gift to myself. Whoever came up with the recipe did a good job of hitting the major pleasure centers.

Thank you for the birthday wishes. :-)

I know about Hulu, but I've got a dial-up connection. Somehow I doubt there are any online video sites that work well with a Windows 98 user on a dial-up connection.

Was Dollhouse ever good? I heard it was crap and had finally become evident that Dushku can't act her way out of a paper bag even if there's a map on the inside of it drawn in giant black marker.

The first Dollhouse ep was Not Good, but the show did improve and was positively intriguing by about the midpoint of last season. Not sure what's up with Dushku's acting, though. I believe she can act, but that someone somehow convinced her not to.

Glad to hear your 40th was a good one. I really think that turning 30 is much worse than turning 40.:)

It's too bad you don't have high speed internet at your place. You could watch most of the shows you want to watch online. Netflix is pretty good if you want to go the DVD route.

Thank you! I can't say I'm thrilled to be 40, but maybe I'll grow into it.
