The Real Reason I walk everywhere is...

... so all the money I save on bus fare can be spent at local farmers markets, apparently.

Note: Never listen to a spiel about hand-rolled fresh mozzarella if you are not prepared to pay for it. When a vendor chirps, "If you have questions about anything we have on the table, just ask," and your response is "Why don't you tell me about everything?"--you are probably already in deep trouble. On the plus side, deep trouble can be tasty.

Oh man, I know. It's good for me they're all early in morning around here, because I would spend all my money on good bread and smoked Amish cheddar if I woke up early enough to get to them.

There are several afternoon markets I can get to sometime during the week. I have a brochure with the dates, times, and addresses of about a zillion DC-area farmers markets, and I have not yet decided whether this is a good thing or a bad thing.

True, any money that can be saved must be spent on food. :D

But what about books & music? Can't forget those!

Ahh, you know... Here it's incredibly expensive with music and books.
And even if I can get books cheap second hand, I don't have the space anymore. ;)
Besides, the best music is already made. ;)
Although...I would like to get my hands on that new Nik album. I just can't call myself his biggest fan if I don't have the recent album, can I? *sulks*

Books are hugely expensive here too. CDs, for some reason, are about the same price as they were in 1985--too expensive for me to buy new ones very often, but still mostly cheaper than new books! But the local library sells used books for very low prices and a couple of stores have relatively inexpensive used CDs, so there's always some temptation around.

I disagree with you about the best music being in the past, but we have enough favorite music in common that we can afford to disagree a little bit. :-)

Can you get Nik's music via iTunes or Amazon or something like that? I think all the digital music sites have the newest stuff, and I hope it would be cheaper than importing the CD from England. Still not cheap when you're on a limited budget, though.
