I'll just link to an old post: What I Did On My Isabel Vacation, by Hummingwolf. Not so much a story as a collection of notes from the days we had with no power after Hurricane Tropical Storm Isabel.

My most memorable... erm, memory... of a power outage was during the Blizzard of '93 (I think - it may have been the Blizzard of '94), when the power was out for like 6 days. My family (Mom, Dad, me, and my younger sister) used a five-gallon bucket - with a hole cut out of the lid - as a toilet. Yes, seriously. When I am 85 I'll have forgotten everyone's names and what year it is, but I'll still remember that.

Ack! Yeah, that's certainly memorable. I'm thankful that I have lived all my life in places where the plumbing worked even when power was out.
