Writer's Block: Crepuscular Drama

[Error: unknown template qotd]

Well, I finallly got around to removing "twilight" from my LJ interests list tonight even though it's been on there since 2002. I was always referring to the in-between times of day, you see, and apparently there are rather a lot of people right now who think that the only legitimate reason for listing that interest is if you have the slightest clue who Bella and Edward are. All I really know about the phenomenon is that many people who seem to have some taste say that the books are dreadful. Oh, and there seems to be some sparkly stuff involved somehow.

You should put it back on and just have something about what you're actually referring too, next to it.

Also, I did like the books (the first two, at least.) but sparkley vampires pretty much sums up the whole thing.

I probably will put it back in some modified form, but it'll have to fit within LJ's space & word limits.

Sparkly vampires! That idea amuses me far more than it probably should.

Yeah, I wonder what that sparkly stuff is referring to! *curious*

The real reason vampires won't go out in the sunlight is that their skin *sparkles*. At least that's what I've been told!

i hadn't heard of Twilight (the book, not the time of day) till a few months ago, when people on my f-list started ridiculing it so thoroughly that it never occurred to me to try to read it. probably won't see the movie, either. it all sounds so adolescent.

Yeah, I too never heard of the series until the mass ridicule a few months ago. I may read one of the books one day just out of sheer morbid curiosity.

A friend pointed me to a breakdown of the novel(s) on the Twilight Sucks forums, which I hadn't known existed. I haven't read the novels myself, but it doesn't surprise me to hear there might be bad vampire fiction out there.

Heh. I've read bad vampire fiction, so no surprise there. It just amuses me that this Twilight stuff inspires so many extreme reactions.

The fact that it's a bestselling series probably helps in that regard.

Yes, but while Harry Potter fans are crazy and Harry Potter haters can be even more loony, there are plenty of people who managed to read a few HP books without going to extremes. I suppose I should be grateful that I haven't seen any religious leaders proclaiming that Twilight is leading a generation down the pathway to Hell. Then again, I haven't been looking--the complaints about the series being the Death of Literature are bad enough!

Ha! Oh, doomsayers. Surely, no literature of poor quality has become popular before, nor any other form of media for that matter. This must be the end of everything.
