Ready for the Storm?

I've got two brand-new candles, a flashlight & battery-powered radio that both worked within the last few days, two loads of laundry finished yesterday, plenty of food in cans and boxes, a week's worth of toilet paper, a bag of crispy mint M&Ms, a freshly-recharged cell phone, and the Kathy Mattea and Dougie Maclean versions of "Ready for the Storm" alternating in my head. What am I missing?

Here's hoping Hanna is kind to us and doesn't knock out our power or knock down our trees. We don't tend to get much tropical weather up here, and I have to say the area didn't deal with Isabel all that well when she visited a few years ago. This morning rain is very pleasant, though, and might be good for lulling me back to some much-needed sleep.

i didn't take precautions, so to say. maybe i'd better real quick. we already had a 5-second blackout this morning. yikes.

Do you lose water when you lose electricity? We've always had water here and anywhere else I've lived, even when the power was out for days at a time.

nah, never lost water. but emergency prep instructions always say to have clean water on hand. *is sheep*

what i'm worried about is a spider bite that's looking kinda bad. (i saw no spider, just the bite.) called my primary a few minutes ago. she gave me a monday 7:30 appt. with one of her colleagues but said to head for Patient First if i get a fever, begin to have terrible pain, etc. the mistake was looking online at photos of ulcerated brown recluse bites. brrrrrrr.

i'm worried enough not to be able to type correctly. huh.

Yikes! No spider bites during tropical storms! Erm, I guess it's too late for that. I hope it heals up quickly and doesn't make you hurt any more.

thanks! i'm just trying not to panic. (won't post about this in my lj lest lots of people jump in with advice or scary stories, y'know?)

sending good vibes your way!

Well, so far it just seems to be raining an awful lot. I think we'll survive it. Bad for tomatoes, though.

No need to make emergency preparations here - we've got flashlights and candles all over the house anyway, and with the massive canning that I do, we're ready for a storm, earthquake, or zombie apocalypse.

Well, the storm left everything intact (and well-watered) here. I hope things are going well for you too.

Thank you! The storm was kind to us here--it brought lower temperatures, needed rain, and a pleasant breeze. There are downed trees & power outages in other parts of the area, but my neighborhood seems to be just fine.

ditto here. i'm not as frantic this evening, though still worried. (i did go ahead and mention the bite in my post of today. people were very gentle in their comments.) we'll see how i'm doing in the a.m.!

It was a nice little storm here--lots of rain & a pleasant breeze. I hope things stayed fairly damage-free where you are as well.

Looks like the all we got here was a couple of downed branches and a very brief power outage.
