Still Here

Hey, I finally got out and had fun this past weekend! Many thanks to the Mad Science crowd for having such an entertaining cookout. Good people, tasty food, fluffy cats, [livejournal.com profile] orthaevelve yelling at the television--what's not to love? Wasn't sure I would be able to make it down to The House of Three Deaths on Saturday, but after a nap I decided that if I could drag myself to the Metro station in one piece, I would hop on a train as long as it seemed likely that somebody could be at the other end to pick me up. Am very, very glad I got to hang out with folks again--it had been much too long.

I did mean to write well before now, but somehow the intention got lost in the flotsam and jetsam of life. So I guess those lovely paragraphs composed in my head about sunflowers and goldfinches and seasoned squid (apparently too spicy for a Korean woman in the store café where we were eating, but quite tasty to me) are gone forever. Haven't been up to writing much here, for several reasons. The big one, at first, was that nasty, evil headaches and the medication for them were making it difficult for me to write at all coherently. Now the headaches are better, but I've been thinking lots of thoughts and haven't been in the mood to share. That may change soon, but the thoughts I share then very likely will not be the thoughts I've been having now. Not even sure I want to share those with myself, though it isn't like I've had much choice in the matter.

Am feeling the need to remind myself of who I am, so that I may better be able to be myself. If you think you understand this, you probably don't, quite; if you think you don't get it at all, you could well be close.

Still in the mood for the music of Icehouse/Flowers, so your ((very) early) '80s music video of the day is a transparent excuse to use this icon: "Walls" by Flowers (not to be mistaken for anything by The Wallflowers).

Where does the idea that people cannot read in dreams come from? It seems that I've been doing nothing else in my dreams lately. Big philosophical books written in shining letters.

The previous three paragraphs are more closely related than you might think.

On an entirely unrelated note: the Limited Edition Snickers Rockin' Nut Road Bar tastes odd in a way I do not particularly care for. The dark chocolate and almond combination is always a good one, but the marshmallow makes it all seem fairly fake. Maybe it would be a good idea to avoid candy bars with marshmallow in them from now on, since those always seem terribly disappointing anyway. Now it's probably time to get offline again to eat some real food.

We were all very glad you were able to come down!

I'd like to promise more "at home" Mad Science Coffees, but the next couple of months promise to be terribly busy. Still, I like having them, so they WILL happen again.

Yay! Mad Science is a good thing.

It was really good to see you again, and I am glad my yelling at CSI amused instead of annoyed you.

Oddly enough, I tend to dislike most of the limited edition chocolate bars in general. Then again, I am a chocolate snob, and buy the really expensive stuff, so perhaps that isn't surprising.

Next time you can make it to mad scientist, remind me and I will bring some of my wierd chocolate to share.

I don't like Hershey chocolate (aside from the occasional Reese's Cup, which I get more for the salty pseudo-peanut butter), but I usually don't mind the other standard drugstore candy bars. M&M/Mars' dark chocolate is pretty good for cheap stuff (Dove dark bars, f'rinstance). At least it meets my daily requirements for chocolate without costing too much. :-)

It'd be good if my ability to make it to Mad Science were predictable. Some days it's hard to know if I'll be able to tolerate the hour-long Metro ride!
