Movie Listinging

Taken from [livejournal.com profile] daisydumont, this is one of those memes that give you an idea of how little I've consumed of our popular culture. Feel free to laugh...

...

Here's Entertainment Weekly's list of the top movies of the last 25 years. Go through their list and BOLD the ones you have seen and underline the ones you own on video or DVD.

1. Pulp Fiction (1994)
2. The Lord of the Rings trilogy (2001-03)
3. Titanic (1997)

25. Shrek (2001)
26. Hoop Dreams (1994)
27. Aliens (1986)--No, but I saw Alien: Resurrection, the one Joss Whedon would like to pretend he had nothing to do with. [Edit: Not really, Joss freely admits he was involved with A:R. And that he loathes it.]

29. The Bourne Supremacy (2004)
30. When Harry Met Sally... (1989)
31. Brokeback Mountain (2005)

57. There’s Something About Mary (1998)--Pardon me, but this movie sucked. The only good part was when the folk singer got shot. There was a folk singer who got shot, right? Because if there wasn't, then there were no good parts to this movie at all.

Im somewhere between you and Vicki in
numbers seen , I think about 30 of these
or a couple more if one counts movies
I looked at a little of on dvd and said
no more of this...as something about
mary which I agree to me also was
totally not funny.
I didnt see the folksinger get shot
but I saw very little of it before turning
it off.

I've never rented many movies, so most of what I've watched were either movies that showed up on TV at times when I noticed they were there, or movies that friends took me to. There's Something About Mary was one that I had to sit through in a theater because some of us were celebrating a housemate's birthday. The singer was shot at the end, as I recall, so it's good for you that you didn't have to get that far into the movie!

dvds

I work part time in a university library and
almost more than books we deal out popular dvds
but the good side,if it is that ,is that I can
take them home and look at them if I wish
and fast forward from scene to scene and see the
whole in 10 minutes without having wasted any
money.
really when I look in our dvd drawers though
or also by and large at this list I think
what hideous stupid stuff this is...
but there are a few on this list even that I liked
but it is depressing

i was just telling seraphim in my thread that my favorites aren't really on the list, aside from the LOTR films. oh, i did like Big very much, but the films i tend to want to watch over & over aren't there (e.g. In & Out, Strictly Ballroom).

>The only good part was when the folk singer got shot.

all right! i love folk music, but that would sort of echo john belushi smashing the folk singer's guitar in Animal House. slob humor!

The list must be based on financial criteria, because quality doesn't seem to play much part in it!

Animal House--another movie I've never seen! :-)

Heh. THere are 11 movies on that list which I've watched and you haven't, and three which you've watched that I haven't. I do recommend "Glory".

But, like you, my list is almost entirely a matter of circumstance. There's maybe two movies on that list which I watched at my own initiation.

There are at least a couple that I watched on TV or actually rented. Saw & enjoyed all of the Back to the Future movies of my own free will.
