LiveJournal Election Update

Today is your last day to vote! If you haven't voted for the LJ Advisory Board yet--or if you're sick of hearing from your candidate and want to change your vote to somebody you've never heard of--go here! Vote now! Candidate position posts are linked to from this news post if that matters to you.

I understand that many people believe this is a pointless election between tiresome candidates and that the results won't change the way the country site is run, but I must point out that many Americans felt the same way back in November 2000 and look what happened there.

Lest anyone doubt that this election is a serious affair, not only has [livejournal.com profile] legomymalfoy posted that she was the one to receive the original "credible" death threat, but now [livejournal.com profile] jameth says he has also been threatened. All this for an unpaid position that involves some communication with LiveJournal, Inc. and a free trip to Istanbul.

I voted! Well, Hraith voted. I'd forgotten which journal I was logged into. But that's okay, because Hai-Kah-Uhk won't.

Hraith voted for [livejournal.com profile] lostcosmonaut because that's the name of the only famous theatrical play I invented for his culture. Neat, huh? Well, also because the person appeared to be relatively drama-free.

Hooray for Hraith! It is kinda neat that someone in the running shares the name of that play.

I've changed my vote half a dozen times during the last week, I think. This election's been fascinating, in a sick and twisted kind of way.

===The threats and theater sounds like the sort of thing that the LJ drama folks would do. Jameth and his folk probably sent out the threats against others, and then Jameth claimed he was targeted.

===This is just a game for them.

You know, I could see that being the case. But until it's confirmed, I'm going to assume both threats are credible and true, because I can see that being the case to and to assume that someone is lying about something that serious without proof just doesn't sit right with me.

Either way - it's really messed up and not funny in the slightest.

===At this point, I tend to see things as both credible AND as likely to be a game played by folks like Jameth. Or that the first one is credible, and Jameth is once again being an ass.

===No, it is not funny, to those that have an ounce of maturity.

To be honest, as much of a jerk as Jameth can be, I don't believe death threats are the kind of crap he would pull. He is an ass, not an idiot. Now, I could believe that he would claim to be a target even when he was not; but given his personality and his history, a threat against him is quite believable and I tend to believe that he was, in fact, threatened.

As for his supporters... yeah, it's a game for many of them. Where Jameth seems to be a fairly sane person with an empathy deficiency, many of the people who want him to win have no desire to stay in contact with reality--and more lacking in any empathy.

But I watched his damn show for the things he would say against Bush. He used American things I remember from High School, but I liked that.

I don't recall Jameth saying anything about Bush when he ran for LJ representative.

This is so beyond messed up. The fuck is wrong with people that they think it's okay to threaten someone's life based on something like this (or based on something more serious!).

Yeah. What you said.

Well, it's Istanbul!

Not Constantinople.

You can't go back to Constantinople.

No, I can't go back to Constantinople.
