Hummingwolf goes "Baa"

While I wait to find out if the drugs will chase this headache away in time for me to enjoy the lovely spring day, here is a fairly frivolous survey-type thing all the cool kids are doing which will show you just how out of the pop-cultural loop I've been.

Empire Magazine has revealed its list of the "50 Greatest TV Shows" ever. Below is the list and here be the rules.

1. Bold the shows of which you've watched every episode
2. Italic the shows of which you've seen at least one episode
2a. Star the shows you consider "the best" (Addition by [livejournal.com profile] tidesong)
3. Post your answers

50. Quantum Leap--Might've seen a fraction of an episode once? Not sure.
49. Prison Break
48. Veronica Mars
47. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine *--Best of the Treks, IMO.
46. Sex & The City

45. Farscape
44. Cracker
43. Star Trek--I'm reasonably sure I've seen every episode. It's not as if the reruns weren't on the air all through my childhood.
42. Only Fools and Horses--Never even heard of this one.
41. Band of Brothers--Nor this.

40. Life on Mars--Have I heard of this? The David Bowie song running through my head isn't helping.
39. Monty Python's Flying Circus--Watched parts of episodes.
38. Curb Your Enthusiasm
37. Star Trek: The Next Generation--May have eventually watched every episode in reruns, but I did miss most of season 2 when it first aired.
36. Father Ted

35. Alias
34. Frasier
33. CSI: Las Vegas
32. Babylon 5--Watched seasons 2-4, but missed much of season 1 and all of season 5 (no cable).
31. Deadwood

30. Dexter
29. ER
28. Fawlty Towers--Not sure if I've seen this, but possibly.
27. Six Feet Under
26. Red Dwarf

25. Futurama
24. Twin Peaks--Saw part of an episode on a large-screen TV in a noisy restaurant, so that doesn't really count.
23. The Office UK
22. The Shield
21. Angel *--I miss having Joss Whedon shows on TV.

20. Blackadder
19. Scrubs
18. Arrested Development
17. South Park
16. Doctor Who--Honestly not sure if I've ever seen an entire episode of any series with any of the doctors. I am an outcast among geeks.

15. Heroes
14. Firefly--Missed one of the episodes that aired and all of the ones that didn't.
13. Battlestar Galactica--Have seen much of the original series, but none of the new one (still no cable).
12. Family Guy
11. Seinfeld--As a general rule, I hate sitcoms. Sad to say, this one was no exception. I enjoyed watching the series finale, but only because I was enjoying the reactions of the people around me. Also, like seven zillion other people across the United States, we ordered pizza. It was tasty pizza.

10. Spaced
09. The X-Files
08. The Wire
07. Friends
06. 24

05. Lost
04. The West Wing
03. The Sopranos
02. Buffy the Vampire Slayer *--Yep, I still miss Joss.
01. The Simpsons

i did like DS9. the men in the house watched it weekly. i liked sisko and odo and the guy with the lizard head. wait, am i mixing up shows? the lizard guy was in voyager, maybe. (they blur in my mind, but then, i was sort of a secondary fan.)

i watched every Barney Miller, most of Taxi, every Soap. this is dating me, very badly. :D

Guy with the lizard head? Quark (DS9), Neelix (Voyager), or somebody else? If it was someone who showed up in the last 2 seasons of Voyager, I wouldn't know them, I'm afraid.

I didn't watch every Soap, but I did see a few. A sitcom I didn't always hate. :-)

neelix. he turned colors with his moods. yeah, it was voyager then.

Soap had a fabulous cast.

Sisco and Odo and Garak were on DS9...Garak was lizard faced, or snake...

i remember him, too, but i was thinking originally of neelix. he was very appealing. a bit like a chameleon

Greatest TV shows ever?! They only list shows from the past 20, in some rare cases 30, years! Where's I Love Lucy? Where's All in the Family? In some cases, they're listing shows that haven't even completed their series yet - they may tank horribly in the next year or two. And The Simpsons as number one? Maybe the first ten years of the series, but including their current stuff? So. Much. NOT. And no mention at all of what I consider to be the best TV show ever - Northern Exposure. I don't expect it to be everyone's top show, but a decent top 50 list will mention it *somewhere*.
This is a piss poor list. But I'll probably post the meme myself, with that as a disclaimer. ;)

Hee! I look forward to your entry, if you feel up to posting it!

Farscape is my all-time favorite live-action science-fiction series. (Yay, hyphenates!) I would very much recommend both Scrubs and Heroes. Family Guy is also good if you're OK with shows that are basically endless streams of pop-culture references and bizarre social commentary.

Aren't Scrubs and Family Guy sitcoms? I'm still not a fan of those, I'm afraid.

I guess they are, I just don't think of them that way. I mean, they don't bare many resemblances to ordinary sitcoms. Scrubs in particular is just awesome in how it handle character interaction and whatnot. ^*^ It honestly just has a lot of heart.

I did miss your note about hating sitcoms, though. Apparently my brain filtered Seinfeld out of the list entirely. I couldn't stand that show.
