Yesterday & Today

Yesterday: Had an early afternoon appointment with a new ophthalmologist. Somewhat to my surprise, I got to the office early--just as I had planned. After all the false starts and missed appointments recently, getting somewhere on time was a nice change of pace! The doctor's practice was located in a rather unpromising-looking building with difficult-to-find stairwells and elevators hidden from view as if they were ashamed of themselves. Once I got inside the office, though, I was greeted by friendly people with many shiny science fictional devices they used in examinations, so that was reassuring.

Good: Aside from some retinal changes common amongst nearsighted people as they grow older, my eyes look fine. Vision with glasses on is still 20/20; vision without glasses on is still in "Read what? I don't see anything to read!" territory. Bad: Though my flavor of Medicaid does pay for glasses, they apparently don't pay this office for them; or if they do, the people in the office yesterday had no knowledge of how such things would happen. I could really use a new pair, too.

After the eye doctor visit, I went to a different doctor's office to pick up some forms I needed, considered going to get some blood tests done, realized that it was too late for me to make it back to the nearest known Quest Diagnostics lab before they closed, and went to buy cheap lunch at Taco Bell instead. Most of my recent experience with Taco Bell has been with a food court version, so I was pleased to discover that the standalone Taco Bell had a wider variety of items on its menu. I know that their half pound beef & potato burrito cannot possibly have been good for me, but it really did hit the spot yesterday afternoon.

I had plans to go hang out at the Mad Science Coffee Club yesterday evening, but since that was still hours away, I hopped aboard a Metrobus and rode some random route to its end. Still hours to go. Rode Metrorail somewhere, then rode somewhere else, then transferred to another line, then got off. Still staying inside the nice, warm, underground station--and therefore, still inside the system--I sat on a bench and read my library book for something over an hour until I finally decided it was time to go on my merry way.

Had an enjoyable evening. Mad Scientists are fun and they make tasty food. I wish I could remember some good quotes, but it's probably better that I don't.

After eleven hours, I finally got back home to discover that, while it was 30 degrees warmer inside the house than it was outside, it was still about 15 degrees cooler than it should have been. Took off wet shoes and changed into dry socks. Turned furnace back on. Waited for feeling to return in my hands and feet. Spent entirely too much time searching LiveJournal for spicy things.

Today: There are many useful things I could have done today. Some of those things were even things I wanted to do... until I looked outside, and then looked at the weather forecast. (Sleet and freezing rain, you say? Thanks, but I'll pass.) So I spent the day indoors, reading people's comments on the latest LJ weirdnesses, setting up an account on InsaneJournal (as hummingwolf) in case of emergency, and doing nothing else of any consequence.

Two perfectly fun sounding days!

You have so much more courage than I do for adventuring, I envy you in that.

Hope tomorrow is a plus day too!

Pfft. That's not adventuring; it's trying to come up with something to do when your eyes are dilated and you can't read. ;-)

Given the choice between weird science and a dead man's party, I'll take the former! Come to think of it, though, the mad scientists I know have a tendency to discuss necromancy amongst themselves...

Harvey simply will not leave my arms so I assume he needs to tell you something. So "Mrah" and "prrrrrrrrrrRrrrrrRrrrrrr" to you.

I've now got him zipped up inside my sweater, hanging half into the center drawer on my desk. It's a bit of a reach to type, but at least there's no cat standing on my wrists.

I'm glad you were able to have such a good time at the Mad Scientists Coffee Club. You deserve some fun.

Aww! Be sure to skritch Harvey for me.

Yes, fun was good. I may be paying for it today (ow), but it was still good. :-)
