Something good: Discovered that I actually do own a pair of shorts that still fits after my weight gain two years ago. I hadn't bothered to buy shorts to fit my new size because I had hoped to lose the weight once I stopped taking the medication that had caused it, plus I don't wear shorts all that often anyway and there are other things to spend my limited money on. But, as I said, there's one pair of elastic-waisted shorts that I can wear, which was a good thing indeed on a day when the temperature hit a rather unpleasant 100 degrees (about 38° C).

Of course I also rediscovered reasons why I never did like wearing shorts much, like the fact that more exposed skin means that mosquitoes have more skin to attack, or the fact that dust and pebbles you kick up when you're walking are irritating when they hit your bare legs. Oh well.

Anyway, I did get out for a while today, mostly to go to a farmers market. Got there early enough to buy the three things I wanted most: blackberries, cherry tomatoes, and apricots! I'd realized before I left the house that I had enough quarters and dimes scattered around my room to add about six dollars to my total, which was good because there was absolutely no way I was going to overexert myself walking to the bank to get cash before traveling to the market. (Sure, I could have taken the bus to the bank--but standing at a bus stop any longer than I have to is a bad idea on a day like today. Passing out has never been my idea of fun.)

Now that I think about it, I probably walked about two and a half miles today anyway. Don't worry, I am drinking plenty of fluids...

There was more I wanted to say, but my brain cells are fizzling, or possibly sizzling. It does smell like there's meat cooking in here, even though my supper was tofu and vegetables. It's possible that the air conditioner isn't working quite as well as it should.

Oh, one cool thing at the farmers market: One of the farmers had a little battery-powered fan with a squirt bottle in it, so she could squirt water on her face and then aim the fan at herself. (She was making noises of great pleasure when the cool air blew her way, then said, "You know, that sounds kind of like... um, maybe I should just stay quiet." Then she grinned.) It was a neat little gadget, and one that more vendors probably should have been using today.

It's sad that tomorrow's predicted high of ninety degrees sounds positively pleasant, but it does. A cooler cold front would be appreciated, but around here we'll take what we can get.

i walked around an air conditioned mall yesterday and thought i was being heroic! i salute your fortitude out in that heat.

yes, i was just looking at the forecast for today, thinking, "that's more like it!" that's just sad. *g* (i'm happiest when it's in the 70s.)

Was it fortitude or foolishness? Hard to tell sometimes!

I probably like it best when high temperatures are in the mid-60s to mid-70s, with lows around 50. Nights when the temperature never dips below 80 tend to make me deeply unhappy. It looks like we'll have lows in the 70s for a while--though the middle of next week is looking remarkably good at the moment. Here's hoping next Wednesday's high really is only 84!

Congratulations!!

I would love to live near a farmer's market.
We have them here---in driving distance and Hubbie has to take the car for work.

Send me a private message what size you wear, I may have somethings I could mail you . . .

Thank you! I'm very fortunate to live in an area with good public transportation. Also fortunate in that many, many farmers markets have sprung up in Maryland near the DC line in places where people can get to them by bus! I wish transportation were as good everywhere, for those of us who can't drive ourselves for whatever reason.

I honestly don't know what size I wear these days. Typically I go to the thrift store and hold something up against my body to see if it might fit.
