Hummingwolf Today (Or Last Week, or Something)

Disturbing abdominal discomfort shading to pain for the last nine or ten days. Missed a doctor appointment early in the week, rescheduled for earlyish (not as early as I'd like) next month. Too many appointments, too little energy. Anyway, I'll spare you all the TMI and just say I'd like to be feeling better very quickly, please.

Also not been able to use language very well this week, which is more than a little bit annoying. Not sure what's been going on there. Anyway...

Accomplishment of the Week: Finally got my state ID! Went to the Motor Vehicle Administration on Thursday afternoon, spent two hours waiting around and not reading anything for fear of missing it when they were ready to serve my number (gah!), then talked with the nice, competent-seeming clerk who I'd been hoping to get and had my picture taken for the card. The photo was an appropriate one for official MVA documents, which is to say that in it I look tired and somewhat deranged.

Nice Conversation of the Week: The one I had with a grocery store checkout clerk who told me he's always glad to see me in line because I'm always nice to him. Aww!

Annoying Conversation of the Week: Let's just say it involved relatives and leave it at that for now.

Books Finished This Week:
David Brin, The Postman
Pat Frank, Alas, Babylon
Ellen F. Davis, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and the Song of Songs

What?

Food of the Week: This is a tie between Choceur's dark chocolate with hazelnuts (hooray for cheap chocolate!) and pluots. Mmm... lovely, lovely pluots.

Music of the Week: The Ark. [livejournal.com profile] kaukomieli is to blame for introducing me to some of their songs. :-)

Real-Life Amusement from Zombie Day: While I was out walking on Wednesday, I saw a man with a dazed expression lurching his way down the sidewalk--while wearing a "Bush-Cheney '04" T-shirt. When I saw him, he was walking past a Ben Cardin for Senate sign left over from last year's campaign, which led to questions about the percentage of residents of the District of Columbia and its suburbs who may, in fact, be zombies controlled by one or the other of the major political parties.

Scent of the Week: Also on Wednesday during the thunderstorms, the scent of freshly-broken tree branches and rain on dusty ground. Fortunately, the undead didn't seem particularly pungent.

Well, if I must be a liberal, that sounds about right. For curiosity's sake, I'd like to see some of the conservatives out there posting their results.

I thought there was more to say, but it's all slipped away from me.

Don't know if that makes you conservative either. Maybe it's that the quiz is a typical quiz.

[identity profile] seraphimsigrist.livejournal.com 2007-06-18 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
you know I am too scrupulous in the
sense of not wanting to put my name with
something I do not accept as representing
at least with approximate accuracy my thought
and these quizzes operate in a different way
putting a number of absurd alternatives
which represent perhaps more rational expressions
which it would be harder to put into words...
it is a way of making a quiz rather easily but
hard on the scrupulous test taker who will not
make the leap required.

and on another matter hope you feel better soon
there are all sorts of awkward moments as one
goes along arent there?

Yes, even though I do try to get into the spirit of the quiz-type things, for every one of these quizzes that I take there are rather a lot that I can't be bothered to finish because I get tired of giving answers that don't relate to my life or way of thinking at all. It's good not to fit inside the test-makers' little boxes, though; the boxes people try to put you in do become rather cramped!

Thank you. Sometimes it seems those awkward moments predominate, though there are still good ones left.

Pat Frank, Alas, Babylon

My favorite book of all time. Since the first time I read it, for my sophomore English class, I've read my way through three copies of it. Read them until they fell apart. I saw a large, nicely-bound copy of it at Barnes and Noble's yesterday and almost bought it, just in case the copy I have bites the dust. I wish I could find it in hardcover.

I'd actually never read it before. It does seem to be one worth re-reading some day.

Yeah! I'm the liberal elite! A living, breathing oxymoron. (But a smart one.)

And I'm really glad you like the Ark. I'm uploading some more of their songs when I get home :)
