it smeared every saucer and a french maid yes, a sex aid and a nose, what do you mean?

As I have said many times before, I don't believe in astrology. I also know too much about astrology for someone who doesn't believe in it, but that's quite beside the point. Because of the way my morning's been going, I checked various personalized horoscope sites for the amusement value, and sure enough, they all say that today's one of those days when everything goes smoothly. Mercury doesn't go retrograde until tomorrow. If I believed in astrology at all, I would be absolutely certain that the planet of communication and niggling details was feeling stressed out today and taking out its frustrations on me.

Have I mentioned lately how much I hate voice mail systems? Particularly governmental voice mail systems? At least I finally managed to find some part of the system willing to let me record a message for the person who was trying to contact me early this morning.

Every once in a while, from our viewpoint on the Earth, other planets will look like they're moving backwards instead of in the usual direction through the zodiac. The apparent backward motion is called "retrograde" in astrology. Most of the time when people who are into astrology talk about retrograde planets, they'll talk about Mercury, which looks like it's going in reverse for about three weeks at a time, three times a year. Since Mercury is traditionally considered to be the planet in charge of communication, travel for short distances, and details, when it's retrograde (that is, when it looks like it's going the wrong direction), astrologers often say that's a bad time to sign contracts or start new projects, and people will blame miscommunication, traffic jams, and all related things on the Mercury retrograde.

Nowadays, a lot of astrologers who are trying to be more positive about everything traditionally considered bad will say that a retrograde period is a good time to tie up loose ends, do some introspection, or get in touch with old friends.

I don't believe a bit of it, but now you know. :-)
