Post-earthquake stories
D.C. earthquake: Smithsonian animals knew the quake was coming. Except for the pandas.
A happy story: Man regains hearing after earthquake.
D.C. earthquake causes Lego collapse at National Building Museum. Actually, the National Building Museum said that "two of the 15 buildings in the exhibit 'suffered minor damage.'" But they wouldn't call that damage minor if those had been non-Lego buildings!
At the farmer's market yesterday, the quake was still a big topic of conversation, right up there with the approach of hurricane Irene. One vendor swore he felt an aftershock "Just ten minutes ago! When I was standing right here!" (There were no earthquakes over magnitude 1 in the region at that time.) And the market did have the requisite couple of Californians who hadn't felt a thing, though they had wondered why the roof of the Wal-Mart they were in was making such a huge rattling noise.
As for the weekend of Irene: Some friends I haven't seen in far too long are hosting people in their lovely home this weekend, so I'm planning to go inland. Hooray! Now let's see if I can do a little cleaning while getting clothes packed up today...

Californians laughed at us this week for our reaction to a moderately strong earthquake. Now you Floridians may have the chance to mock our reaction to a hurricane. Here's hoping the hurricane damage turns out to be no worse than the quake damage!

I'm glad the storm wasn't too bad for you! Nervousness is no fun, but at least now you have a chance for some relief!
