Your friendly neighborhood hummingwolf is not sane
Too many days recently, I've been too tired to do much besides sleep and maybe drag myself to the computer a few times to see what those of you with more energy are doing with yourselves. I hate forced inactivity, but sometimes the body leaves me with no choice.
Yesterday, however, I felt energetic enough to go for a good walk--four miles! A perfectly respectable distance, especially for someone with chronic illness, right? I thought so too. This morning I felt just as good, and the weather was simply beautiful, so I thought I'd walk about four miles again in another direction. After a trip to the grocery store, on a whim I thought it would be fun to walk to the DC line and back. Just enough to say I'd walked out of the state, no more.
Those of you who know me can guess where this is headed. Yep, I kept walking and walking and--well, the farthest point I can remember getting to is about 3.5 miles away according to MapQuest, but with all the wandering I did I'd guess I covered closer to eight miles total.
My right ankle and left knee hate me, and neither of my feet may ever speak to me again. My left shoe has a hole worn through the sole, my feet were already blistered by about the time I thought to turn around and head for home, and my first sunburn in a long time is a fairly painful one. The last mile & a half or so was agony with every step.
The temperature was perfect--about 70 degrees when I was out there. Sun shining brightly in a blue sky. Trees blooming everywhere, showing off flowers in pink and white and gracing the air with a subtle perfume. Flowers on bushes and the ground were not to be outdone, all dressed in their springtime best. Butterflies flitted, bees buzzed, birds sang, people were talking to each other about what a gorgeous day it was.
Yeah, it was totally worth it.
