Update

"Wow, somebody really has it in for you!" Those are not the words the woman at social services used. What she actually said was more like, "Wow, somebody really is trying to close out your accounts!" This exclamation was her response to the discovery that not only were my foodstamps discontinued without proper notice, but my medical assistance is being cut off as well. Well, at first she said that it had already been cut off, then that someone was trying to close the account, and so I left the office a bit confused which is pretty much par for the course.

In good news: Because the computer records made it obvious that there was major screwing-up on their end, food stamps are reinstated--for now--and I should be able to use them sometime tomorrow afternoon. What I think I'll do tomorrow is buy something small like a carton of eggs. If the EBT card works, great; if it doesn't, eggs are cheap.

What I need to do: Go in to their office almost as soon as possible (she recommended Wednesday or Thursday 8 a.m. since they expect a crowd on Tuesday morning), this time carrying every scrap of paperwork which seems even remotely relevant.

Call these my New Year's Resolutions: Go to doctor's office on Tuesday to get copies of various things, then find a way to not only wake up early but actually get out of the house early on Wednesday (or Thursday, but not later than that).

I'd like to resolve to have nothing to do with bureaucracy in the new year, but that would probably be asking way too much out of life.

can you do me a favor, while you're gathering paperwork? Send me relevant info about where they have screwed up, and dates and such you might have handy?

Oh, and asking them who is at the top of this particular food chain would be helpful.

So sorry to hear you are having troubles. This reiterates to me why it is so important for me to try and keep a job and insurance. It is also why I don't try for SSDI, etc. The 'what ifs' terrify me.

Yeah, Social Security is not something you want to try to live on if you have other options. As long as you can keep a job, please do!
