If you thought July was hot...

... and you happened to be in the vicinity of Washington, DC, you were right.

According to the current version of the Public Information Statement from the National Weather Service:

Link also has info for Baltimore, MD & Dulles, VA. And yes, I am fully aware that Texas broke more records than this area did. And yes, I am suitably grateful for the fact that I don't have to live in Texas. :-)

Yesterday's high was in the triple-digits again. Today will be noticeably cooler, only in the mid-90s and not terribly humid. The rest of this week, we're expected to have highs around 90 degrees Fahrenheit, which is reasonable for this time of year (the normal high temp for August 1-6 is 88). I'd still like to try for a record low maximum temperature. Wouldn't highs in the 60s be nice for a change?

In unrelated news, I'm at the update page on Dreamwidth and about to crosspost to LiveJournal, and my brain keeps reading the phrase "Crossposting Settings" as "Crossdressing Settings." Which settings would you suggest?

my electric bill, as you'd suspect, was pretty darn high last month, and i know it'll be no lower this next cycle. holy cats, but it's been nasty. not only hot -- when i'm out in the sun, i can feel it devouring my skin. let's either move to finland or go in the way-back machine to the '60s, how about?

oh, as to crossdressing, i suggest you set it to stun. :)

Our electric bill for June was unusually low for us. I expect the soon-to-arrive bill for July to more than make up for it.

Based on this page, August temps in the 1960s don't look too bad, but I might prefer the 1920s if they didn't end in such a depressing way...

Come to Scotland! Melting in the heat will NOT be an option. Sniffling in the cold damp dreich rain will be...

i have scottish blood from my paternal grandmother (a campbell) and would really love to get to scotland someday! just looked up 'dreich,' btw, as i had never seen the word before. the online dictionary even pronounced it for me, which is a good thing -- i'd have said it with the germanic EI diphthong. i'd probably like dreich rain. :)

Not all summer you wouldn't:-)

We've had about two weeks of decent weather this year. It's just depressing. Means I don't have to run around like a mad thing watering the plants, but... The slugs and snails are multiplying like -rabbits? (like slugs and snails might be a better description) and all my gladioli are sagging.

My current crossdressing settings seem to be "Men's socks (because they're generally better quality for the price) and men's shirts (if they happen to be really pretty)."

Boo Hoo! Can't think in Fahrenheit! Only Centigrade. But it sure sounds HOT!!

Bleaugh. Rather you than me.

According to this converter:

100 degree Fahrenheit = 37.7777778 degree Celsius
We've had far too many days over 100 this summer.

104 degree Fahrenheit = 40 degree Celsius
That was our maximum air temperature for July.

122 degree Fahrenheit = 50 degree Celsius
That's what the temperature & humidity combination felt like on one of those days!

80 degree Fahrenheit = 26.6666667 degree Celsius
There were too many days when the actual temperature never fell below 80 degrees F. Fortunately, I was sleeping in someone else's air-conditioned house most of those nights!

Trying to get along at 37 degrees is hellish!! We usually hit 30 max - London and the SE can reach 37 sometimes, though.
