How today began: I made some plain oatmeal, added some natural peanut butter, and then added what I thought was cinnamon. Yes, if you had asked what I was putting on my cereal, I would have been absolutely certain that the bottle said "Cinnamon" on it--and I would have been wrong, because it was clearly "Cumin." Not my first choice of breakfast spice, but it didn't taste bad at all.

I've been in an '80s music mode lately (Siouxsie & the Banshees' Peepshow was on repeat for Halloween, then Howard Jones' Dream Into Action took over my stereo yesterday) and had the Nik Kershaw song "Faces" running through my head early this morning. Unfortunately, I only have that song on a cassette taped from the LP, and my cassette deck stopped working a couple years ago. So I dragged out a tape player left behind by a housemate long ago, cleaned off the accumulated dust and cobwebs, then fired the thing up in the hopes it would work well enough to satisfy my musical cravings. The machine did work to an extent, but no matter how I fiddled with the assortment of knobs and buttons, all sound on the right channel was replaced by a distracting mechanical hum. There was some evidence that the deck might want to eat my cassette as well, so I stuffed the beast in the hall closet and went back to listening to other peoples' Launchcast stations.

Today is better than yesterday though, at least so far. Yesterday was one of those days where... well, any details would be TMI, so let's just say that leaving the house was inadvisable. At least I was cheered up by the first new House episode in a month. Hooray for snark and incredibly cute House/Wilson scenes!

Actually, after my initial "ewwwwwwww!", I imagine it had a bit of a Indian/Thai flavor, especially with the peanut butter.

Pretty much, yeah. Once I smelled the cumin I figured I'd have to throw the cereal out, or at least shove it down quickly. But it turns out to be a combination I might try again, though I'll never eat it as often as the cinnamony version.

Do you have a CD player? Cause I could send you a CD...? :)

I do have a CD player! A local friend said she wanted to get me the CD when she bought a copy for herself, but I don't think she ever found any Human Racing CDs at reasonable prices. Do you still have my address?

And delete my comment when you get the email ad. ;)

Yes ma'am! It's deleted. :-)

*grins*

Am I paranoid in thinking that a spammer could find my emailad in that comment? ;)
I felt like it!

Nah, that's not so paranoid. Spam is annoying and I can't blame you for wanting to avoid it!

Hmmm, cumin on oat meal. I should try that, as I am heartily sick of oatmeal, as it is.

Glad today is better than yesterday. May tomorrow be better still.

Yes, oatmeal does get tiring after a while. I have this big canister of store-brand rolled oats and am constantly trying to think of something new to add to the stuff before I eat it. Sausage goes with it pretty well, but probably cancels out all the health benefits.

your accidental breakfast sounds definitely Indian. You might call it "uppama" and not be far off!

I don't recognize the word "uppama," but it does sound better than "accidental breakfast!" :-)

It's a sort of Indian dish that's like cream of wheat with spicy things in it! Sometimes spelled "upma"

Oh, it sounds interesting! Maybe I'll see if I can find a recipe for an authentic version, in case I get tired of the oatmeal.

Really now, it's silly to refer to me as a spicy sort of thing just because my totee is called Cinnamony. :-P

Silly Cinnamon Girl, it's good to see you 'round these parts again. Hooray for power!

[identity profile] skygypsy.livejournal.com 2005-11-05 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
hehe i was not referring to you as cuminy, just felt the need to shout appropriate spiciness ;)

it's sooo nice to have internet at home again!

THAT's the other spice I needed for my peanut butter hot sauce ramen!!

Thank you!!

Glad today was a better day than yesterday. We go up we go down we go up we go down we go up we go . . . . .

You're welcome?

Yes, it was good to have a day better than the day before. Here's hoping today is a good one for both of us. :-)
