Dr. House + Wu Wei?
So I was leaving the store on Saturday after buying some of those little items which are so necessary for my glamorous lifestyle when it occurred to me that the total the cashier rang up was substantially less than the running estimate I'd been keeping in my head while shopping. Taking out the receipt to look at it more closely, I realized that she'd forgotten to ring up the package of extra-soft toilet paper (glamorous, see?). I determined to be an honest woman and went back to the clerk to explain the mistake. Well, the clerk couldn't ring up the extra item on her own, so one of the guys came over, looked at the receipt, decided I'd been overcharged for something and gave me another dollar and change. I patiently pointed out that that hadn't been the problem at all--I was here to pay more money, not get money back. He looked again, rang me up again, and finally let me pay for my toilet paper.
If the universe thinks I need more money, it's certainly right. However, it's going to have to give it to me without store clerk confusion being involved. And, as a humble suggestion, I think it should be giving me more than $4 at a time.
Anyway, I obviously got out of the house yesterday, after spending a couple days stuck in the house. Didn't walk all that far--maybe a mile and a half total--but half of it was in the cold rain. A fireman greeted me on the sidewalk with a big smile and a "Glorious day outside, uh?" Heh. He was cute.
Slept badly Friday night, first because of coughing, later because leg pain kept waking me up, later still because I was having dreams involving Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, and alien abductions. Creepy. I know the dream reflects some of the things I've been reading lately, but I could live happily without having any more televangelist dreams, thank you very much. The aliens weren't so bad.
Last night I dreamt of a college lecture hall where several LiveJournalers were among the students. Someone had found on one of the computers a script which would repeatedly print out the words "DR. HOUSE + WU WEI" and we all wondered what connection there might be between a TV doctor played by Hugh Laurie and the Taoist concept of nonaction. One of the men in the room (who I didn't know, but seemed to be friends with
daisydumont) managed to compose and recite a long poem combining House, Wu Wei, and the Borg collective.
seraphimsigrist was so impressed that he led the crowd in a round of applause so loud it woke me up.
This morning my body refused to let me go where I wanted, so I alternated between bathroom and computer chair. Someone had posted to
fibromyalgia (with two different usernames) something about being given "the mission from God to make the world more aware of spirit companionship"--specifically the companionship of her dead boyfriend. I checked out the friends pages of a couple of her identities, saw that she had posted the same to rather a lot of communities, and I responded to several entries with:
Does amusing folks in a variety of communities count as my good deed for the day?

Remember: If a spirit tells you to spam a bunch of unrelated communities, it is an evil spirit. I recommend prayer and exorcism.

Sorry, I'm too evil, selfish and poor.
And I love your comment to the spam!
