The previous post was not related to drama of any kind. I am not angry with anyone. Just a minor panic, that's all.

Some people post photos of their naked, writhing bodies publicly on the internet. Other people shower with their clothes on. The extremes may seem silly to those of us in the middle, but each of us still expects our own ideas about privacy to be respected.

This whole concept of privacy is weird, you know? Oh yes, that's such an original observation to make in an LJ post. I have a phone number that's freely available to anyone who looks it up, I have an online diary that's about 90% public, and I understand that it's not always obvious that I'd like to keep the two separate. Other people have unlisted numbers, entirely friends-locked LJs, and e-mail addresses containing their full legal names and dates of birth. We all have our own ways of disclosing information about ourselves, and our ways may not make immediate sense to anyone (including ourselves).

There were other thoughts going through my head this morning, but I got distracted by the sunlight on the rustling trees outside. Ooh, pretty.

Yeah, I needed to say here that I wasn't upset with anyone. Sometimes people see these things and think they're the topic of discussion even if they're not. You're okay. :-)

Can other people see who you have listed on your friend's list? I thought your yahoo flist was only visible to you. If not, that's kinda messed up. I'd prefer my list to be private. That said, this made me realize I don't have you on istant messenger. I'm going to add you, if you don't mind (as Hummingwolf of course). :-)

Oh, this was inspired by an e-mail someone sent out to several of their friends. In the line listing addresses of people the e-mail was going out to, the e-mail addresses are listed along with the names of the people as they appear in the address book--so if I sent an e-mail to someone at (I'm making this up) purplepeopleeater@oneyed.com but they were listed in my address book as "John Smith," then they'd show up in the e-mail as "John Smith" [purplepeopleeater@oneeyed.com]. That's okay if John Smith doesn't mind being known as a purple people eater. But if the purple people eater doesn't want everyone knowing his real name is John, he might complain.

It's okay to add me to instant messenger. You should know that I'm hardly ever actually on Yahoo, though!

I used to be rather paranoid about the RL identity being out, but only 1 person every uses my first name online, and since I luv her to pieces, that doesn't bother me.

Hmm. Given your family, showering with clothes on may be the best way to get all the laundry done after all! Though I don't know if SoCal air is quite dry enough for things to air-dry while you're wearing them.
