(no subject)

Yesterday was one of those days where I'm simply too tired to move most of the day. Since it was not one of those days where I pass out if I try to sit upright for any length of time, I spent more time than usual doing some poetry-finding and typing practice (a.k.a. feeding of MegaHAL), while also getting plenty of time in bed napping. Did manage to walk to a store, something more than half a mile total. My body let me know in no uncertain terms that that little bit of walking counted as overexertion yesterday.

This morning was best described as "icky," though thankfully not at the level of "oogie." Took nap, read a bit, played a little online, napped some more. This afternoon I went outside to find where my feet would take me. Turned out that I had considerably more energy than yesterday, so I decided to go hang out with some trees. My first thought was to amble along a bike trail I've walked on before, but when I got to the intersection of trail and road, I walked in the opposite direction to see if the trail on that side had good places to commune with the flora. Good choice. The path I ended up on had enough trees and wildflowers and running water to give me a nature fix and muffle the sounds of traffic, while still having enough walkers and bikers that my "Danger! Women shouldn't walk alone on bike trails!" instinct was quiet most of the way. Not sure how far I walked... wait, a map is proving surprisingly useful. So it was somewhere around five miles total? Not bad.

Also went to a grocery store I hadn't been to before. Their machine wouldn't let me pay with food stamps, which is just as well since I wasn't buying real food (yes, I admit it, I have a shameful weakness for potato chips). If energy allows, I hope to do some real grocery shopping tomorrow.

As some people noticed already, my birthday is tomorrow. Last year on my birthday I watched movies about osteoporosis. What can I possibly do this year that would be more entertaining?

Wait a minute. Yesterday you could barely move and toady you walked five miles. Well, I'm fucking jealous. I can't seem to walk one mile without having five days in between where my body says "don't move". I feel like I'm 80. The nature trail sounds enticing.

As for the birthday...EAT CAKE!!!

Yes, I'm grateful for the days when I can walk a good distance (though I can't help remembering that even after I'd been sick for a few years, I thought walking 4 miles a day every day was easy!), because I do have enough days where going half a mile seems like it'll kill me. Of course, I haven't been able to sleep since about 4:30 this morning because my hips hurt too much if I stay in any one position very long--and how can I sleep if I keep having to move? Argh!

The part of Maryland near DC has a great trail system--my landlord talks a lot about different groups who do regular bike rides between various cities. They're not nature trails per se, but some of the bike trails do have some great places to just relax and find some peace among the greenery. Oh, and yesterday I got laughed at by ducks! :-)

You'll think I'm really weird when I say this, but I'm not a fan of cake. I'd rather have a birthday pie.

Happy birthday tomorrow! As for your question in the last sentence of your post.... I'd say, just about anything!

Thank you! And yes, I think I can find something more entertaining than osteoporosis videos. For instance, I could clip my toenails or dust the living room.

===Happy Birthday!

===(Were we not going out to the woods, we would "kidnap" you out and do something...I have suspicions that camping in October would not be your thing atg the moment, however....)

Thank you!

Being out in the woods sounds wonderful--in theory. It's not exactly practical at the moment. I do miss getting away from highway noise, though.

Thank you!

Today for my birthday I bought myself a pomegranate. Pomegranate is much better than any ol' cake. :-)

Hey, if Pengy doesn't want to use it anymore, I may as well. ;-)
