Morning question

grrwoo: have you ever noticed that "with extreme prejudice" is only used with violent terms
grrwoo: like killed with extreme prejudice
grrwoo: never with fun things
grrwoo: like "baked cookies with extreme prejudice."
me: hee
grrwoo: why is that?
me: people usually don't associate "extreme" or "prejudice" with good things.
grrwoo: Picking flowers with extreme prejudice!

A Google search for "cookies with extreme prejudice" did get one result, though that page is no longer available. The cached version says:
Neo says:
stealing biscuits with your a** is a lot of inconvenience compared to more conventional methods
Josiah says:
it can collect cookies with extreme prejudice

Right then. Anyway, have you ever used or heard anyone use the phrase "with extreme prejudice" in a fun context not involving violence? [livejournal.com profile] grrwoo and I want to know!

Edit: More uses of the phrase here. I like "Macerate with extreme prejudice" and "Masticate with extreme prejudice," but this is probably because I'm hungry.

"Pontificate with extreme prejudice"? I've known a lot of people who do that. Sometimes I'm one of them.

Chocolate with extreme prejudice!

well considering prejudice isn't exactly a positive word...

Technically prejudice just means having a preconceived notion about something.. it could be a positive notion. Like something that you think will be really good.

"I shall enjoy this cake with extreme prejudice!" (clinging to the notion that cake is good, while allergic to wheat)

I'm prejudiced in favor of anything chocolate, personally. Even if I discovered I had a wheat allergy, would probably enjoy brownies with extreme prejudice.

hehee.. actually, there are gluten-free brownies, thankfully. They have them at Whole Foods, sometimes.

denotively, yeah, technically. But most definitions say "adverse judgement", detrimental, hostile, etc. I've used it in similar-to-cake statements before! "I'm going to annihilate these brownies with extreme prejudice!"

It doesn't have to be a negative word. But the usual uses of the term have prejudiced us against "prejudice."

I'm pretty sure I've heard [livejournal.com profile] mmsword use it, both violently and nonviolently (though he can make flowers seem violent..)

You'd have to ask him for specific uses, though. I can't seem to recall any offhand..

Do people even use the phrase "extreme prejudice" outside of movies? I don't think I've ever heard it in real life.

I've heard it in real life from people making jokes. The phrase supposedly comes from the CIA, but I remain unconvinced.
