You know those Extra Special Limited Edition candy bars they keep coming out with? Kit-Kats with three kinds of chocolate, Reese's Cups turned inside-out, that sort of thing? I am not entirely sure if I have made this clear, but I am the Target Market for these things. I am the person who snatches up those packages at the 7-Eleven, the Safeway, the Target or CVS, and absolutely has to find out what nifty new version of an old confection they've come out with now. As someone who loves to try out new flavor combinations (especially if those combinations involve chocolate), I can pretty much be counted on to try each Super Special Edition Thingamabob at least once as part of a balanced diet.
Today at the supermarket, I saw something new and interesting. There, at a display of bagged candies for the summer season, was a bag of limited edition Almond Joy miniatures in Key Lime flavor. Now, as the Target Market, I can tell you that if this had been a single, regular-sized bar, I'd have snatched it up in an instant. But no, this was a bag of candies, and buying something like that takes commitment. Though I eat cheaply enough on the whole to be able to afford the occasional splurge on junque foods, I was unsure whether or not it was unwise to capture a whole bag of unknown candies. Key Lime Almond Joy could potentially be very good--or utterly repulsive. So I circled the display slowly, eyeing the unsuspecting prey and considering its suitability as an object of my hunt. And as I circled, another bag caught my eye: Almond Joy miniatures in Passion Fruit (with natural and artificial flavorings).
::blink::
Yeah, that was enough to send me scurrying off to the produce section to hide amongst the cantaloupes with my tail between my legs.
And yet, now that I've had time away from the scary bags of mutant chocolate, I find myself thinking... Passion Fruit flavored Almond Joys just might be an Incredible Taste Sensation, mightn't they?
Yep, I'm their Target Market, all right.

I had no idea such a thing existed.
My theory is: if I try something bizarre like this and like it, it will only frustrate me that it goes out of production and I can never have one again.
Conversely, I am adverse to trying new and different foods anyway so-
I guess I am not the target market, eh?
Passion fruit?
I don't think I'd have the nerve to try that.
Even if it wasn't mixed with chocolate.. (fruit shouldn't touch chocolate.. they should be separate) and even if it wasn't mixed with almonds (deadly allergic to nuts, I am).

Well, if a product does well enough, the companies tend to bring it back after a while. For instance, Reese's cups with white chocolate are now a permanent item.
But if you don't like trying new and different foods, then--well, you're definitely not me. :-)
I'm not actually a fan of Hershey's chocolate. I've got a real weakness for the chocolates from this company but unfortunately they're more expensive and don't tend to be sold at stores which accept food stamps.
