Notes to everyone
Regarding certain memes going around:
I will not tell you what I think of you in one word. Sorry, but being laconic requires too much brainpower for hummingwolves suffering heat malaise: you're either getting silence, or you're getting babble. For now, I'm going with silence.
Also, I'm not answering your question what people want to do with you someday. In most cases, I just want to be awake enough for good conversation, so it's fairly safe to assume you're in that group.
This one isn't about a "meme" in the quiz/blogthing sense, but memes in a more Dawkins-like sense of things propagating from brain to brain, or in this case, LiveJournal to Livejournal. This one bothers me: If you have something to say to one person, please say it to that one person, rather than broadcasting it in an LJ post, if there is any chance that your too-cryptic entry may be interpreted by innocent bystanders in such a way that they get burned. Too many people have been hurting lately, hurt unintentionally by generally well-meaning folks who weren't thinking too clearly in their stressed-out states. Please, no matter how upset you are about problems in your own life, at least try to minimize collateral damage, okay? (No, this bit is not directed to one person. There's a theme, a trend which isn't all that healthy.) (And yeah, if you look at early LJ posts of mine, you might notice a few which were in fact written to send a message to just one person. I've largely broken myself of that habit--mostly because other people will think you're talking to them, and they will be hurt.)
And speaking of people getting hurt: If you sent money to that woman who claimed her cat had gotten burned but really set up her Paypal account just to prove that people on the Internet could be nice and helpful, please consider filing formal complaints with whatever appropriate people you can think of. Crap like that particular betrayal of community trust must be discouraged. Of course, I say this with somewhat selfish motives myself--if it weren't for the generosity of online people, I wouldn't be here online at all, wouldn't have eaten much when the food stamps were cut off, and wouldn't have much hope for a future. If incidents like this work to discourage someone who otherwise would have helped me or someone in a similarly needy position, yes, I've got a personal problem with that.
Finally, and most seriously: Prayers going out for the people of London, and all the families and friends who have been affected by the latest attacks. The LJ clearinghouse community for things related to the incidents is at

Probably just as well. I hate to suffer guilt because of non-participation in popular games! :-)
The woman who posted the stunt fundraiser intrigues, of course, because she "came clean" and thus no doubt could be had that she made it all up.
I am glad that she finally came clean, though of course now there's reason to wonder about her "new" story as well. As with any celebrity trial, us common people will probably never know the real motives here.
In any community, there will always be people who take undue advantage of people. I just hope that things like this won't do major damage to the sense of community here on LJ.
I like to make my posts oblivious to almost everything, and yet meme and interpersonal communication is almost inevitable.
I don't really have a problem with memes, in general. (I love your creative polls, even if I don't always fill them out!) And interpersonal communication is a good thing. But too many people have been hurt by others' posts lately, and it frustrates me when it's so unnecessary.
