Happy Thursday

Fourth Thursday farmer's market of the season today! Spent time doing my usual market chatting with several of the vendors & a few of the customers. Also enjoyed:

• Listening to a surprisingly long and spirited duet featuring a man and a rooster. (An informant said that the human started it.)

• Oohing and awwing over a six-day-old pygmy goat. His mother died during the birthing process; but if being fawned over by everyone he meets is any help, the kid will be just fine.

• Eating a supper of cheese bread, salmon spread, two types of greens (pea shoots and something the farmer referred to as "faux-broccoli rabe"), and the very first relatively local strawberries of the season. I have no complaints!

• Looking at the beautiful cut flowers and flowering plants I would have been tempted to buy if I'd brought more money with me.

• Smelling (and looking at) the always-lovely handmade soaps of Mystic Water Soap.

• Experiencing the various wonders of an almost-ideal spring day: breezy, partly cloudy, temperatures in the upper 60s. In spite of the tree pollen floating around, it was a splendid day.

Mmm, that sounds like a lovely day - it's at least a month before the farmers' market here starts up, and another month before it's really in full swing, but I am so looking forward to it.

This particular farmer's market starts early in the year compared to others. I think most around here begin in May or even June, when farmers have something to sell besides greens, root veggies, and bedding plants!
