December 25
The time of year when people, for a brief, shining moment, stop looking to great armies or political power to save them and look instead at a miracle of a little oil somehow being enough, the sun starting to gain strength in the midst of the darkness, the birth of a helpless little boy. Even if you disbelieve in anything but the physical realities of the star our earth revolves around, one thing to be thankful for is that at this time of year, many of your fellow walkers on this planet are thinking in terms of something other than domination and destruction. Though people may return to their daily cruelties tomorrow, for today they have the sense that kindness and light are the law of the cosmos. Though tomorrow they may repress all thoughts of anything other than getting ahead, the memory of today still burns deep inside, making the world less dark than it would otherwise be.
Christmas isn't about light. It's about light in the darkness.
Christmas isn't about light. It's about light in the darkness.
