Must call AOL this morning to cancel my free trial. [Edit: As a friend predicted, when I called to cancel, they gave me another 30 days free. I'm still here!] In the meantime, am listening to (mostly) folk & Celtic music on Launchcast through one of my alternate Yahoo accounts and wishing I were better at playing air fiddle.
In the news: Chronic pain may permanently shrink the brain, US researchers believe.
One wonders how much of that loss during "normal aging" is due to pain, given how much doctors love to blame things on either the aging process or psychological problems when they would rather not deal with a patient any longer. (Me, bitter? No... well, maybe a little bit.)
In more personal news, I had a fairly pleasant conversation this weekend with someone who frequently isn't easy to deal with. Also, forgot to mention that last week I went out to dinner with a couple of friends of the family and felt much better for some conversation and good red meat.
No idea what I'll be doing for Thanksgiving this year. Maybe I should buy myself a couple of turkey legs while I'm out today--I already have stuffing mix and some canberry sauce (not a misspelling), so I can fix myself a dinner here if it comes to that. If I can get some more free internet access, that would give me even more to be thankful for.

The Northwestern University team had previously shown patients with back pain had decreased activity in the same brain region called the thalamus.
This area is known to be important in decision-making and social behaviour....
The patients with chronic pain caused by damage to the nervous system showed shrinks in the brain by as much as 11% - equivalent to the amount of gray matter that is lost in 10-20 years of normal aging.
The decrease in volume, in the prefrontal cortex and the thalamus of the brain, was related to the duration of pain.
Every year of pain appeared to decrease gray matter by 1.3 cubic centimetres.

I'll miss you. It may be a while before I stop wishfully checking for you on AIM. Aw.
