Not dead yet

First, I stayed away from LJ and Dw because I was too tired to stay upright for long enough to read here--too tired, and with a brain too unwilling to refrain from doing odd things like hallucinating bagpipe music while I was in the shower, or exchanging ordinary emotions for something entirely unrecognizable. Then, I did have some energy and more rational brain activity again, but I recognized that I had better use it for stocking up on foods and library books while I still could because it was inevitable that I would end up with the flu after a housemate caught it. So now, of course, I've got the flu, and I am still not up to following what's going on in the world. Will try to get back to you all some day soon, but I'm afraid it won't be today. I do hope you're all doing well out there!

This year I was amused when I realized that I'd spent Valentine's Day reading a book titled Alone! Alone! Today I made up for it by listening to Prokofiev's "Romeo and Juliet" suites, which I really should do more often.

If my recovery from the flu follows my housemate's course, then I'll still be coughing four days from now, but I should have most of my brainpower back. Something to look forward to.

Be well, all of you.

The book disappointed me at first: I'd been hoping for a book of mini-biographies about interesting women I'd like to learn more about, and it was clear from the first essay that this book wasn't that sort of thing. Probably I would never have read past that point if I hadn't been too sick to go back to the library. But I was sick and wanted something to read, so I gave up my preconceptions and decided that the writer was going to write about whatever the heck she wanted and I would go along for the ride, and I did end up enjoying it. I am amused, though, by one two-word book review I found online: "Too British."

Everyone should listen to the Romeo & Juliet suites more often!

I'm not sure about everyone, but it certainly made my day brighter!
