Music of the Spheres?

From National Geographic: Is This What the Big Bang Sounded Like? "As University of Virginia astronomy professor Mark Whittle tells it, the big bang 13.7 billion years ago spawned a big noise along with billions of stars and galaxies. Whittle has come up with a soundtrack to the birth of the cosmos—and it doesn't sound anything like a bang. (Listen to Whittle's conception of what the universe's first million years sounded like, compressed into five seconds.)"

Of course this reminded me of a Language Log rant from this summer about the popular presentation of astronomy: Music of the spheres -- and everything else. I heart [livejournal.com profile] languagelog.

Unrelated: [livejournal.com profile] musesfool linked to this lovely thread about Anne Rice (which Anne Rice fans will probably not want to read).

In personal news, I'm rapidly alternating between panic and hopeless apathy. If I'm to get anything done, I really need to find a happy medium: so are any of you mediums out there having a particularly good day?

Also, if my paid account is expiring on the 23rd, I'm going to have to break myself of the habit of creating new syndicated accounts at whim. Pity, that.

I really dislike Anne Rice's work and I shall leave it at that.

Judging from that thread, you have many people--some quite witty--who agree with your assessment.
