Stuff and things
Some days it seems like I'm the only thing standing between this house and total destruction.
Some days total destruction doesn't seem so bad.
In news unrelated to minor household disasters, many thanks to T.M.U.T.B. for the card and enclosures! As I was carrying my mail upstairs yesterday and looking at the return addresses, I suddenly realized what T.M.U.T.B. stood for and started cracking up, thereby startling a housemate. That alone put me in a better mood than I'd have been in otherwise. Such a rush of exuberance, I ran out and bought some 2-ply toilet paper! I know, I know, I'll try to be less extravagant in future.
Also found out yesterday that my food stamp benefits will be increased by $8 next month. Woo! Of course it'd be nice to have a place to live where I could store and cook that food, but hey, still working on that. Would be able to do more work on that if it weren't for having to stand between this house and total destruction. (The situation didn't get as bad as this, which is good since I don't have a Spanish-speaking tiger to talk to today anyway.)
In the news: Though it's a religious right blog and I've become so anti-Bush my heart's starting to bleed, I still share their glee about blogging's role in embarrassing CBS. The same blog also alerted readers to the quote "Let them go naked," which amuses me.
Sometimes graffiti is educational. Oh, and cannabis may help combat cancer, though one shouldn't place much faith in BBC science reporters.
Bush & Kerry tackle science. That's the BBC again--but Nature's full US election special can be found here.
Note to Windows users: Security alert! Update! Update!
Note to Firefox and Mozilla users: Security alert! Upgrade! Upgrade!
Note to Opera users: You're probably safe for today.
Right then, time to leave for today's appointment. Here's hoping that the world doesn't fall apart in the meantime.

By the way, if anyone has a wireless LAN they want to AVOID downloading the Windows Service Pack 2 as it wreaks havoc with the wireless LAN. This from Dell tech support for Wireless.
