Anybody got a can opener?

To take my mind off things for a little while, I decided to look up some of my horoscopes. One of these days, I need to write a post about why I love astrology even though I don't believe in it. In the meantime, though:

From Free Will Astrology, the 'scope for my ascending sign and moon sign, Leo:

In 1810, an inventor in London originated the technique of sealing food in tin cans to keep it fresh. His idea came into wide use in 1846, when companies began to mass-produce food in cans. But there was no such thing as a can opener until 1858. For 12 years, then, consumers had to make awkward use of hammers and chisels to liberate their food from the new-fangled containers. This story line is an apt metaphor for your current situation, Leo. Some time ago, you got hold of a potentially valuable resource, but you have yet to discover how to make it work for you in the best possible way. The coming weeks should change that, though. I bet you'll finally find or create your equivalent of the can opener.

And for Libra, my sun sign (and sign of several planets):

Libran author William Faulkner (1897-1962) regarded his book, The Sound and the Fury, as his "most splendid failure." For a long time, the public didn't do much to dissuade him from that view. The book sold just 3,300 copies in the 15 years after it was published, and by that time most of Faulkner's other books were out of print. I believe the current state of your fate has some resemblances to that time in his life. On the other hand, your destiny in the next 12 months will have more in common with what happened for Faulkner in 1949, when he won the Nobel Prize for Literature, and sales began to pick up. Just as *The Sound and the Fury* had much to do with his award, I believe one of your own "splendid failures" will be a key to the renaissance you'll enjoy.

At the physical level, be very careful of what you eat or drink. Your body is unusually sensitive to poisons and chemicals at this time and may react badly to some substances. Even if you are careful, you may have some kind of digestive difficulty or other problems in assimilating foods.

Events in your personal and domestic life may become very unclear at this time. Keep your home life as neat and orderly as possible, for any serious problems there could undermine your self- confidence and make you more fearful in dealing with the world. You may have a problem with female relatives or friends during this influence.

Valid during many months: At this time your close, intimate relationships will be difficult and confused. Also you should be very careful about consulting others for advice now, even professionals such as lawyers, marriage counselors or doctors. Of course, not all of these people will give you erroneous information even under this influence, but you would be well advised not to suspend your own critical faculties just because someone else seems to be an "expert."
A marriage or other partnership will be difficult because communications are unclear now. Perhaps either you or your partner is trying to conceal something from the other. If so, you should stop concealing it as soon as possible, for it can only undermine the confidence you must have in each other. Even if you are concealing something for the other's "own good," your partner will not see it that way, and his confidence will still be undermined.

However, you may not be hiding anything. It may just be that communications between you are getting worse. Make sure that you really understand each other, and do not assume that you understand or that anything you say or do is understood automatically. Spontaneous and immediate understanding is not a feature of this influence.

Avoid legal confrontations at this time, if at all possible. Completely unexpected events are likely to happen, which you won't be prepared for. And your opponent may use underhanded tactics that could hurt your position badly. In general your enemies, if you have any, will be very deceptive during this time. But first, we have to decide which is which. Not just on the battleground of our inner-selves but through our interactions with every other person we encounter on this planet. It all takes time. This week's Full Moon suggests an impressive ability to hunt down whatever quarry you are keenest to catch. Monthly for Libra: IN A NUTSHELL
If you feel like your relationship life has just about conked out and keeled over, the Full Moon will prove you right or wrong. Romances past their use by date could well be farewelled now. Happily, though, if you’re single, or attached and your love is strong, delays on the road to commitment could be temporary, so stay calm and clever. Jupiter moves into Libra now (hurrah!) , so you’re about to become more confident (and therefore more gorgeous) than ever.
JUPITER’S ON THE MOVE
Jupiter is the planet that’s big, optimistic, cheerful and who likes to improve things. As far as Jupiter is concerned, bigger is better, more is marvellous and extra is excellent. Jupiter takes around 12 years to go around the zodiac, thus spending about a year in each sign. This month he moves from Virgo into Libra. Since Jupiter is the ‘lucky’ planet, and bringer of good fortune, you might think that his departure from Virgo into Libra is bad news for Virgos and good news for Librans. But this actually isn’t the case. Why? Because Jupiter is also the excessive planet, the one who always asks for a second helping. Virgo, in comparison, is the modest sign not overly keen on those who demand more, MORE, MORE!
As you can imagine, then, “greedy-guts” Jupiter was not exactly at home in “eat sensibly” Virgo. In fact, in astrospeak, Jupiter is traditionally considered to be ‘in his detriment’ in the sign of the Virgin.
Which is a roundabout way of saying that his move into Libra is good news for us all. But of course, it’s fantastic news for you!
If Jupiter’s feeling happy, the rest of is have a better chance of feeling happy too. As he moves into your sign this week, Jupiter will regain some chutzpah. With a little Jupitarian luck, during his stay in your partnership oriented sign between now and October 2005, he’ll shower our friendships, business partnerships and love affairs with his wisdom, optimism and confidence. And he should shower you with the same.

AND WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR ME?
OK, so one thing should be mentioned here. Jupiter is the planet associated with sweet tooths (sweet teeth?!), large servings, second helpings and expansion. Are you getting the picture? Basically, Jupiter into your sign is wonderful. It will boost your popularity, almost guaranteed, because you’ll exude a new cheerful energy which others will find so appealling. It will bring you wisdom. It might even help you travel. But there is the other side of Jupiter just mentioned. And at the risk of giving you a self fulfilling prophesy, I must inform you... Jupiter in your sign can see you put on weight. So there you have it. The good (the confidence, fun times and wider visions) and the not so good (the sudden ability to relate to people who are roly poly happy in a Father Christmas kind of way!)

For the first half of the month, a line up of planets in Virgo isn’t making life easy for you. Not that there is anything wrong with Virgo, but on your chart, Virgo is ‘the 12th house’, the part of the chart which most of us find hardest to deal with. If you’re low on energy and hope this month, hang in there. This has been a testing year for Librans, of that there is no doubt. But every once in a while you’ve been thrown a lifeline, had a carrot dangled and/or seen a flash of light at the end of the tunnel. This month brings more of those. So if you don’t feel as though you’re quite out of the woods just yet, don’t worry. You really are closer to it than you think.

IN LOVE NEWS
For a start, Jupiter’s move into your sign is going to improve your love life. How so? Because Jupiter is about confidence. Where this big planet rolls, optimism and cheerfulness follows, and it’s undeniable that most people find happy people more attractive, non? If you happen to also have Venus in Libra, then Jupiter is also going to be touching that, and you could get quite “lucky in love”. Jupiter, however, also does blow things out of proportion sometimes, so mind how you go if you’re falling head over heels this month! Not to say that it won’t last, but a modicum of reserve is sometimes called for where Jupiter is concerned. If you’re single and looking, the Venus/Pluto link around September 24 could bring you something earth moving. Be careful what you wish for this month, because the eclipses in next month could swoop in to answer your prayers, changing your life more than you ever dreamed...

if things are working against you, i advocate astrological conversion. my astrology theories allow for moving your planets to where you need them most.
