So I was getting ready to go get a fasting blood test done so we can find out if there's an obvious reason why I've been so very exhausted these last few months, and I went to put on my least-objectionable pair of shoes, figuring that with a piece of cardboard or something inserted in the left one it might not be too bad. Then I discovered that the left shoe was worse off than I'd thought and really wouldn't provide much protection if any to my toes. Which left me with the choices of the pair of shoes where the left one simply opens up at the toe end and my foot threatens to slide out, or the pair of walking boots which exacerbate the blisters I've been avoiding walking on the last few days in the hopes that my feet would heal up well enough that walking wouldn't be torture.

I can't do this.

Time for one of those "Star Trek" style transporters. . .

Oh, how I would love one of those...

{{{{{{{{{{{CB}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

Try spreading ointment or vaseline or even hand loton on your bad spots, then wrap a couple of rounds of toilet paper over that, then roll down your sockto the toes, so you can roll it onto your foot over the makeshift "bandage" and up your leg.

It'll offer some rubbing protection, and soften and heal the area simultanously.

Thanks for the advice, Dan! When my feet calm down enough that I'm no longer afraid to touch them (they're angry and might bite (okay, not really, but they do hurt!)), I'll try that. I don't think I'll go walking very far tomorrow, though.

I have a better idea: surely to fuck, in our nation's capital, there are agencies that could at least provide you with a pair of, if not new then at least not open to the elements, shoes. I'm not trying to be a cunt here, but for the love of all that's holy, there's Salvation Army, or probably any number of private charities that could assist you with basic necessities. For free, even.

That's what I've been thinking too (though I'm not in DC itself and some places restrict their services to just one jurisdiction, it seems). But I never managed to get hold of anyone who could provide shoes to fit me--as anyone who's gone shoe shopping with me will attest, getting shoes that aren't the wrong shape for my feet is a big problem. (The shoes I got today are likely a bad fit too, but they're a big improvement over what I had!)

I've gotten more potentially useful numbers since the last time I checked. But lately my phone time's been taken up with calls to doctors & lawyers & such, so I still don't really know what's available.
